Anyone got a Moto 8 phone? Do you like it?

I’d be going from iPhone SE ( old one) to this. I can’t afford another iPhone even though I like it especially as I have an iPad.

It has good storage which is my main need. I won’t be gaming or listening to music or watching films but want a good camera. Would you recommend getting one ? Thanks.

I just bought one as the reviews were good, my friend who works in IT has been suggesting the moto brand for years as they are 👍

anniegun · 27/11/2020 21:22

I have one and its great. The Moto G range have been solid budget buys for years and seem to do everything pretty well. I will definitely stick with them

HighHeelBoots · 27/11/2020 21:24

I have just spent ages considering this phone and, after reading reviews, decided on the Samsung M31 which came out better in a direct comparison

LongBlobson · 27/11/2020 22:20

I have a different (cheaper) Moto. I switched from iPhones and I am really happy with it. I think you get a lot more for your money with an android phone.

CapGunAmmo · 27/11/2020 23:22

Thanks everyone. LongBlobsonis it a pain transferring photos, apps and contacts from iOS to Android? And does the Moto connect to your Wifi ok?

I have the Moto G7 and love it.

I switched from Samsung to Moto when the original G was released as it was cheaper and had a better battery life, since then I've had 3 models without issue and now just buy outright when needed rather than upgrading because they really do last well.

BarbaraofSeville · 28/11/2020 04:58

Another very happy Moto G7 user here. DP has the most expensive version of the Moto G8, which I think has the best camera and he doesn't complain about it. I think his was about £250?

Mine was £75 after cashback from GiffGaff on a Black Friday deal last year, so if you look around this weekend, you might get a good deal too.

I think the Moto phones are brilliant for the money, and have no idea why you'd need to pay 3 or 4 times as much for a phone.

And does the Moto connect to your Wifi ok

Of course it does, why wouldn't it Confused

DinosApple · 28/11/2020 05:44

Yes, I've got a Moto 8 Power and love it!
I don't do gaming or watching much on TV (I use an iPad for that).

The camera is very good and the battery life is extremely good (up to 3 days!). There's a slot for a memory card in here somewhere too for a boost. No problems connecting to WiFi unless in my kitchen which seems to be a broadband blackspot and it just defaults to 4g in there.

I've always had Motos though so can't compare to iPhones.

LongBlobson · 28/11/2020 09:06

Our WiFi is iffy anyway - all the phones I've had have issues connecting to it, including iPhones!

I can't remember much about the process of switching from iOS (it was a few years ago). So it can't have been too bad. I do know I felt so relieved once I'd done it, and thought why didn't I do this ages ago.

DH has an android, and it means we've been able to get the kids cheap android phones too and link them with the family link app.

CapGunAmmo · 28/11/2020 09:26

BarbaraofSeville. Some reviews I looked at mentioned problems with connection to WiFi so I thought I’d ask.

Im just trying to decide which model. So many options and I just assumed the later the model the better it would be but some are mentioning the 7 over the 8.

It’s definitely a good time to be needing to buy something though.

I bought the Moto G8 Power Lite yesterday for my DS. I've just been issued with the G8 Power as my new work mobile and like it. The Lite was only £99 from GiffGaff.

barberousbarbara · 28/11/2020 10:44

I have the Motorola G8 Plus. It's a great phone. I've had no problems with WIFI connection.

I would look at the model as there's different specs. I had a G7 Power and the battery was amazing but the camera wasn't great. The G8 Plus has a great camera but the battery isn't as good. The G8 has Power Lite, Power and Plus.

BarbaraofSeville · 28/11/2020 10:59

Yes, there's different variants whether you want better battery life or a great camera, or it could even be that you can get a model that has both.

I have the G7 Power and like any mobile phone camera these days, the camera is fine for general photography and I have a proper camera for 'proper' pictures. So I just wanted a cheap phone and like the extended battery life as it means I only have to charge it a couple of times a week.

I'd take reviews about 'lacking connectivity to wifi' with a pinch of salt because it's usually poor wifi signal or a comment from someone determind to find fault because its not an iphone or because its cheaper than an iphone it must be rubbish. Usually as a way of justifying paying hundreds of pounds for an iphone.

CapGunAmmo · 28/11/2020 11:58

Yes I did wonder if connectivity was more to do with network and area rather than the phone itself. I would like a decent camera and good battery time if possible so will carry on looking at the various models. Good to know that G7 Camera not too good as phone is my own source of camera.

I have the G8 which is on offer at JL at the moment. if you want better battery life go for the g8 power which has longer battery life. another option is the g9 if you are looking at cameras - it has a 48Mp camera.

CapGunAmmo · 28/11/2020 21:17

I have ordered the G8 from JL handmade. I’m collecting it from Waitrose tomorrow afternoon. Now hoping I’ll be able to work out how to move all my stuff over from iOS.

The easiest way is to go via Google - see instructions here

CapGunAmmo · 29/11/2020 00:47
