Fully tiled beige bathrooms..warm and neutral or out dated?

GimmeMoores · 26/11/2020 09:33

Buying a new build and making our bathroom choices. It comes fully tiled as standard.

For free we can choose

Matt beige
Matt grey
Some plain, and some decor tiles to place where we wish

Gloss cream
Gloss beige
Gloss grey
Some plain and some decor

Other choices cost extra, and to be honest I have more important rooms to put the money we have for upgrades into (we're upgrading the entire kitchen)

I'm thinking matt beige for the family bathroom, hoping it'll show less splash marks and just be a nice bright neutral space?

Am I right or is this dated? Would you advise one of the other options?

Not grey
Definitely not grey no. I want it to be a warm space. Was more thinking am I better off with Matt beige, or perhaps gloss cream or beige

Is there no option for white?

White tiles and then you can add a bright colour or a neutral to change it up.

I don't like beige for a bathroom- feel it looks grubby!

The gloss cream is a very pale off white. Just everything in our bathroom is white so I wasn't sure it would look boring? Not that beige is particularly exciting but I want it mainly to be a functional family bathroom with a splashy toddler so perhaps matte would be better.

White then use a bold colour on the towels and accessories. Much easier to change the theme whenever you fancy.

supadupapupascupa · 26/11/2020 09:44

White. Every time. I hate beige bathrooms

GimmeMoores · 26/11/2020 09:49

Googling and all white looks a little clinical. I can't find a good option. These are what I'm working with.

I have never understood the appeal of beige. I see it as dingy, depressing and an old lady’s colour.
If you get your bathroom tiled in beige and hate it, it will be expensive to rip it all out and change it later.
Why not choose something you actually want, and just pay the difference? There are thousands of inexpensive tile options at places like Tile Mountain or Topps Tiles, and it’s no extra labour for the builder to tile the same area of bathroom.
When I got my new bathroom, the fitter said 90% of his clients chose beige from lack of imagination! He was pleased to have something different to install.
I went for warm brickwork tiles halfway up the walls, white paint above, dark wood floorboard effect tiles on the floor, and shiny silver chrome for the radiator/spotlights/medicine chest/taps, for an urban/industrial look. Softened by plants and fluffy white towels.
You might like rich warm colours, or riotous patterns, or plain pastels - but go with your own taste, don’t just settle for dull because it’s easier for the builder!

Because honestly were a bit strapped with the deposit, solicitor fees and kitchen upgrades already, anything else now would be a credit card job and I'd rather avoid that.

If the se I would go for the Venus cream or the grey wave as they will give you the most options later. (Even though grey is universally hated on MN!)

The grey would look good with a fuscia pink and light wood, or with white and dark wood accessories and some big plants; you could go for a bright yellow or an acid green, burnt orange, or a warm neutral would look good too.

Ours is a gloss ivory type color and looks warm and light (cream has more yellow tones and not quite as warm). Extra large tiles with matching grout colour.

Personally I don't like the starkness of white tiles. Too cold and plain looking.

Cannotcope4223 · 26/11/2020 10:01

Gloss cream!!! Every time. White is so bloody cold and clinical

IRunLikeJoeBiden · 26/11/2020 10:05

I like the Versus Cream on your sample card, they do actually feel quite neutral. Definitely avoid the yellowy cream ones.

Saz12 · 26/11/2020 10:05

I have Matt beige! And (shock, horror) actually like it. I know it’s not at the cutting edge of style, but it’s quite sandy coloured (looks similar to your sample pictures), so goes well with loads of different colours if you like coloured towels. Mine has some larger house plants and natural accessories (wood, rattan, etc) - though at the moment also has stuff from other room as am decorating and nowhere else for it to go.

I think you’re right not to spend over-budget on a room that ultimately will have kids bath toys, bubble bath, and a toilet in it....there’s only so worked up I can get about bathroom tiles, so long as they’re clean and neutral. Spend the money on a room you spend more time in.

Henio · 26/11/2020 10:06

I think it's quite nice, it wouldn't look too dated it all the fittings are brand new

I like the Venus cream personally, but choose what appeals to you. None of it will look dated in a new build with new fixtures etc

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 26/11/2020 10:17

I wouldn’t choose gloss because I think it will show all the water marks and you’ll be forever cleaning the tiles.

JayeAshe · 26/11/2020 10:19

We are likely to choose gloss cream wall tiles for our forthcoming bathroom makeover. It is a cold feeling room with two outside walls, currently tiled in white, which doesn't help the chilly atmosphere in there.

Only 2 retired persons live here so I hope the gloss can be kept nice and the cream, with matching grout, will look classic rather than dated.

Caspianberg · 26/11/2020 10:21

We have a cream on walls and dark gray on floor. With dark grey grouting. I like it. It’s timeless and works nicely with anything else you add
Can you mix and match the tiles on offer or can you only pick one?

SpaceOp · 26/11/2020 10:22

Our bathroom is a little more creamy colour than your beige although the floor tiles are similar. We added earth colours at chest level alternating dark red, dark yellow and a proper cream and some glass shelves and it looks great. I do want to get some dark red towels but haven't bothered.

im5050 · 26/11/2020 10:25

I have white tiles and a black floor ( no imagination 😂)
But it’s stood all the faddy trends over the years and I’ve only ever changed the accessories
I’m in a glitter / silver phase at the moment

TheBumbleNums · 26/11/2020 10:27

We have an all beige Matt tiled bathroom, it’s bright and warm. We changed it up a bit in that we used mosaic tiles in the shower tray in warm taupe/brown to add a different texture/contrast. We have dark brown towels which compliment nicely.

I think Matt over gloss looks better for bathroom tiles, our house bathroom is glossy beige and I think it looks quite dated already after five years (bathroom done prior to us buying the place so not our choice)

Mamette · 26/11/2020 10:30

Another vote for Venus cream Smile

ZolaGrey · 26/11/2020 10:41

Cream. Beige is the bane of my existence.
