How easy is it to remove links in a watch?

DH just got a new watch but the bracelet is massive. We stupidly thought there’d be some simple tool included in the box to remove links, but no. It looks like you have to get a kit of tiny screwdrivers off Amazon and do it that way!

How easy is it, or is it fiddly? Would he be better off going to a jeweller’s? Would they charge?

It depends on the type of watch/link really. I do it as part of my job and find it v. easy. (But you're paying for years of experience and the fact that I'm not going to hand you back a shoogly/scratched watch)

Should be about £5 to do in a jewellers. Maybe a little more if it's ceramic. They're a terror.

Pretty easy if it goes right. Pain in the arse if you mess it up. For a fiver I'd definitely get someone else to do it.

You might find tutorials on youtube if it's a name brand or generic guides if you can tell how the links are connected.

Had mine done at timpsons for about 7 quid. Much easier than learning to do it myself and faffing around 😂

TheYearOfSmallThings · 26/11/2020 12:36

Yes, I brought mine to Timpsons too. It took the guy 2 minutes and cost about £5.

BashfulClam · 26/11/2020 12:40

I took mine into H Samuel as it was closest, the guy didn’t charge.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 26/11/2020 12:41

Yes, worth mentioning that if you take it to the place you bought it from they shouldn’t charge for adjustments

PigletJohn · 26/11/2020 12:46

Keep the links safe, by the way, in case it needs enlarging later

Fab, thank you!
