Not too expensive bikes for kids?

My mum has offered to buy my boys bikes for Christmas and I have no clue where to look. I vaguely remember someone mentioning that Halfords bikes are overpriced and heavy, no idea if there’s any truth to that!

They’re nearly 12 and 9, can all ride bikes and will want them for general park riding. Can anyone recommend?

Wild bikes. You can get them at go outdoors. Great quality for the price, really highly recommend. Pretty sure they are on sale now too.

I know probably not what you want...
But we have always bought DC 2nd hand bikes from our local hire bike shop.
They are 2/3 of the new price, come with guarantee and have been well serviced & looked after. (They only run them for around 6 months before selling on)
We have had brands like giant and frog ... which I highly recommend!

I’m not sure we’ve got a bike hire place nearby, but you’ve actually reminded me we’ve got an independent bike shop just round the corner that might do something similar.

Marketplace. You get some that are barely used. Ask if you can look before committing to buy.

Decathlon do some great value bike. We looked at there and Halfords and much preferred the Decathlon ones.

You may need adult bikes... My 9yo needed a small adult bike this summer. Shes around 1.5m tall, but long limbed.

Independent bike shops seem to know what they are talking about. Warning though... There has been a bike shortage this year. Took us several months to get DDs Took my brother 3 months from ordering to delivery for his.

@Aroundtheworldin80moves You’re right I had a look last night and they seem to stop at ‘age 12’ for sizing so not much point getting those.

My 9 year old however is a titch so he’ll be fine with a kids one! Grin
