Breaded chunky cod loins. Bought, put in fridge. Forgot them. Found them this morning and they've got Mondays date on them. I put them in the freezer but am wondering now if I should have binned them.

They were in a sealed pack.

Depends how they smelled tbh! Would eat if smells ok when defrosted.

I probably wouldn't. Not with fish. I am perhaps overcautious when it comes to not eating food past a use by date. But then I haven't had food poisoning in two decades, so...

I'd go in smell, it'll be pretty obvious if they've turned

As in, this Monday coming or Monday just gone?

TheRealJeanLouise · 25/11/2020 17:12

Monday just gone, probably not.

ImFree2doasiwant · 25/11/2020 17:29

Yes Monday 23rd. I should have opened and sniffed, harder to tell when it's frozen. So annoying as it wasn't cheap and I hate waste.

If I understand it correctly they were bought fresh and then frozen when past the sell by date by 2 days? 2 days in the fridge is the upper limit for fresh fish so I'd be a bit wary of freezing then using, but they'll probably smell very fishy if bad. Or was it a use by date as it was a processed product? 2 days past use by then frozen I wouldn't risk for fish. If you do risk I'd cook really well (even though normally I'd not overcook fish)

Fuck no, not unless you want to play covid roulette down the local a&e.

lljkk · 25/11/2020 18:12

Smell test for me. Highly salted so probably very fine to consume now.

wishywashywoowoo70 · 25/11/2020 18:16

I would have eaten them if they smelt ok
