Fucking pms. Feel drained tired, tearful, fat, ugly and basically being woe is me right now.

I'm 40 so I'm assuming peri symptoms will be even worse?

Not always. I didn't find the peri-menopause period too bad at all. Flushes happened of course. I was persuaded to go on HRT for a while during which I had bad PMT, migraine and depression (which I had anyway), worse :-). I came off it, flushes weren't anything I couldn't handle and didn't last forever, was generally much better.

Not having periods any more is lovely.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 25/11/2020 16:12

Bizarrely the peri menopause has been like the early stages of pregnancy for me . And I didn't even get symptoms when I actually was pregnant haha
I feel nauseous, my boobs hurt and milk tastes funny in my tea ( I'm defo not. If only !)
I've found high strength oil of evening primrose has helped massively with the boobs .
Periods have become much worse to add insult to injury . Hormones are strange things

Not necessarily.

My periods got heavier and longer apart. I’m early 50s now and not yet reached the Menopause but my PMS definitely didn’t deteriorate.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 25/11/2020 16:23

After barely suffering from PMS in my life, ever, my smuggery is now being punished by peri menopause Confused

Symptom from hell this last week has been sore, achey knees which bizarrely don't bother me AT ALL in the day but are waking me several times nightly they're that painful.

So, yes, it can be a bitch. If yours is OP, there is lots of support/advice on MN. Hope yours eases Thanks

The days before my period seem so miserable.Im on the pill, god knows what it'd be like if I wasn't.

Are random aches and pains normal signs of peri? I get a painful shoulder one week, painful hip another week, then my back starts. If one part stops hurting something else takes its place! I was thinking it was sitting awkwardly while working from home but maybe not (I'm 47)

PaperTowels · 25/11/2020 16:34

I'm 54 so assume I've been perimenopausal for a while, have no idea though as no symptoms Smile

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 25/11/2020 20:13

holly my aches do that too. I've read it's something to do with the drop in estroegen (sp!) which would have helped the body reduce inflammation. Plus the drop means our bodies don't produce as much collagen which helps to oil the joints.

I'm going to look into supplements as I run and I'm really reluctant to give it up but I'm worried I may need to.

goose1964 · 25/11/2020 20:25

The only symptoms I had were heavier periods and very intermittent hot flushes. mind you I didn't get pms either. I swear it was the marmite I eat daily

Margotshypotheticaldog · 25/11/2020 20:29

Watching this with interest.... Haven't had a period in 9 months and having hot flushes. Sleep is a bit disruptied, but no other symptoms. I can totally handle this but is it likely to get way worse?? I'm 47 so maybe it's a bit early yet? I'll be furious if the periods come back. They were pretty patchy all of last year and I kept hoping that was the end of it. Can't wait tbh

JonasKahnwald · 25/11/2020 20:30

My pmt has got much worse and I've been on novofem 1% hrt for 6 months. Wondering whether to ask the gp for the 2%estrogen version of my hrt or come off altogether.

Margotshypotheticaldog · 25/11/2020 20:30

*disrupted. No tying up whatsoever involved 🙄

PaperTowels · 25/11/2020 20:54

Meg Matthews was on Sam Baker's podcast (which is all about life after 40, and focuses on what they call the menopause which is of course the perimenopause) and it was REALLY informative.

tellmewhen - it's difficult to know what supplements to take isn't it. I already take Vit D, magnesium and Wellwoman, I'm starting to rattle! I've been running while the gyms have shut so that probably hasn't helped with the pains. What fun.

Pipandmum · 25/11/2020 21:03

Not necessarily. Other than irregular periods I had no other symptoms. But I had very painful pmt.
