BBT charting beginner!!! Help

Elizabeth5585 · 25/11/2020 08:39

Hi
I’ve been TTC for almost a year and finally caved and started BBT this cycle.
I’ve been using CB OPK for a while and this cycle got my peak on CD 17.

My question is, looking at my chart does it look to you that I didn’t actually ovulate if my temp has dropped after it?
I thought you were meant to have 3 days of high temps if you did ovulate?

Any tips or guidance is very appreciated

It doesn't look like it to me, but there aren't really enough temps to see an overall pattern-

Also quite a lot of variance in those temps- are you holding your thermometer under your tongue at the back of your mouth at the same time every day before doing anything else? Is your sleep disturbed?

wrensandrobins · 25/11/2020 18:12

I would also ask admin to move your post to conception though, lots of BBT experts there :)

Elizabeth5585 · 25/11/2020 18:37

@wrensandrobins thanks so much, I’m new to mumsnet and temping so I’m just guessing.
I keep doing it under my tongue around the same time but I always wake up to pee in the night I’m wondering maybe that’s why it’s all over the place?
Also the charts I’ve seen on google their temps are way higher than mine? Maybe my temps are just nautically low? Xq

It doesn't look like you've ovulated yet. You need to have had 3-4 hours sleep and test at the same time each day. The app confirms after 3 higher temperatures. My pre ovulation temps are around 35.9 / 36.2 and post ovulation around 36.5+. Are you using a thermometer to 2 decimal points? It's possible that your body geared up to ovulate but didn't for some reason, keep testing and temping and having sex!

Like the others said, if you ask to have the thread moved to conception there's lots of people there ttcing and temping / using opks.

Good luck.

Elizabeth5585 · 25/11/2020 19:33

@VenusStarr thanks hun.
Yes I’m using a basal thermometer, this is only my first cycle doing it, I wish I would of done this months ago.
I wonder why Clearblue opk said peak, it all so very confusing.
I have an ultrasound tomorrow so I’m hoping they can give me some advice or see what’s wrong x

VenusStarr · 25/11/2020 19:40

Glad you have a scan tomorrow, they'll be able to see if you have ovulated or if you're about to 🤞 hope it goes well

Elizabeth5585 · 25/11/2020 19:49

@VenusStarr hopefully they can tell me something, I wasn’t sure if they could even see anything on a pelvic scan x

wrensandrobins · 25/11/2020 19:54

@Elizabeth5585 you can have a peak LH without ovulating, it's the hormone that triggers ovulation, getting a full month of temps will help because it's really the overall picture rather than a few temperatures!

wrensandrobins · 25/11/2020 19:58

Also it can take a couple of days to ovulate after a peak so you could still ovulate in the next 24 hours or so?

Don't worry about getting up in the night for a wee that won't affect your temps unless you didn't go back to sleep

Elizabeth5585 · 25/11/2020 20:01

@wrensandrobins thanks, I wish I would of carried on BD now instead of stopping after I thought I had ovulated.
I’ll keep temping and hopefully be better at it next cycle

Have sex tonight if you can @Elizabeth5585 I remember getting really stressed in my first couple of months of temping, but once you get used to it, yo ll feel more relaxed.
Hopefully they can tell on the scan, although you might need a transvaginal one to look properly at your ovaries - fingers crossed 🤞

Elizabeth5585 · 26/11/2020 09:18

@VenusStarr thanks lovely. My appointment is 2pm today so I might show them my chart? This mornings temp was so much higher. I don’t know what’s going on as I’m taking it around the same time each day x

That temp is looking promising, although the triangle suggests it's a different time to your usual. If it stays up tomorrow and Saturday you probably have ovulated. Fingers crossed you get some clarity from the scan 🤞 x

Elizabeth5585 · 26/11/2020 09:40

Damn your right it was 1/2 hour earlier this morning maybe that’s why. I thought that would be ok.
I’ll let you know what they say later ☺️ X @VenusStarr

30 mins is fine, my book says within a 2-4 hours time scale but to try and stick to the same time, 30 mins would not cause that kind of jump!

You might have ovulated, as @VenusStarr says check out the next few days and if it stays high you have.

I wonder as well about consistency in how your using the thermometer, but they should settle as you get used to it!

VenusStarr · 26/11/2020 12:14

Half an hour wouldn't be that big a jump - I think if it's with an hour, so 6.30-7.30 you're on time, if that makes sense @Elizabeth5585 🤞 it's looking promising!!

Elizabeth5585 · 26/11/2020 12:23

Aww thanks girls! It’s very emotional all this!i had a massive argument with OH this morning I think I just took it out on him. 🙈
Will keep you updated x

Elizabeth5585 · 26/11/2020 15:54

So girls I went for the scan.
They said there’s no polyps, cysts or fibroids.
He thinks he can see that I’ve just ovulated but isn’t certain?
So I hope that’s a good sign.
He said to call the gp in a week and they may suggest a blood test for my hormone levels.
I’m just so relieved he thinks my ovaries and uterus is ok x @VenusStarr @wrensandrobins

VenusStarr · 26/11/2020 18:35

That's great news @Elizabeth5585 I think today's temperature rise was ovulation :)
As you've been trying for a year as the GP for cd1-5 and cd21 blood tests. My husband was also sent for a sperm analysis. Hopefully you won't need to go down that route but it is good to get the ball rolling as it takes so long! X

Elizabeth5585 · 26/11/2020 18:45

@VenusStarr
Thanks I’ll ask that when I ring next week, I hope they won’t make me wait the full year it’s January, I had a miscarriage and tried ever since.
I waited 12 weeks for just this ultrasound, with COVID I suppose there is a big delay on things like this I just feel it’s going on and on.
Oh so they offered your husband a sperm test, that’s good maybe they will test him as well.
Months ago I bought a test from boots to see if he had low sperm found and it was normal but I doubt that’s as good as a doctors test
How are you getting on ttc? X

OP posts:
VenusStarr · 26/11/2020 18:50

I'm sorry about your miscarriage ❤️ I've had 4 losses over 3 years, but I finally got some answers last week after private tests, so we're ttc again with medication and support for regular checks.

With the fertility pathway, your GP won't be able to refer you on until you both have been tested. Once we were in the system I had a hsg (dye in tubes test), more scans and a hysteroscopy (camera in uterus) where I did have a polyp removed. Now we've identified why it took us so long to conceive and now having recurrent losses, we're hopeful we won't need ivf, but do have that as an option. X
