Lidl over charged me

Has anyone had any experience with getting a refund from Lidl. I went shopping last week and came out with an enormous bill. As they rush you packing and want you leaving the store ASAP I didn’t check my receipt until I left the store. Anyway they have charged me for £73 worth of chocolate coins instead of £3 worth of chocolate coins. I obviously rang up Lidl customer services and they seemed very helpful on the phone but I’ve heard nothing since. What is the next step, obviously I can’t prove I didn’t buy 73 bags of chocolate coins.

Return to the store with the receipt. Ours have always refunded straight away.

Mummiepig · 24/11/2020 17:46

Go back to the store, they must have cctv of the tills and it would be obvious if you were buying £73 of chocolate coins
How big was your shopping bill? You didn’t notice an extra £70?

stairway · 24/11/2020 17:50

My bill was £197, I did buy a lot of stuff but I did think at the time it was much more then I was expecting which was why I insisted on the receipt. However I was running late to pick my daughter up from nursery so didn’t check it straight away.

My dh bought 4 fresh rolls. They charged him for 40. He thought the bill seemed high so he checked the receipt on the way out.
He went straight back and they refunded straight away.
It was easy in that case as the store was quiet and the guy knew he hasn't put through 40 rolls.
Trickier when time has passed as the person who served you might not be sure.
I'm sure they can check tills vs stock and see you didn't buy that many. Can you go back to the store?

stairway · 24/11/2020 17:59

I will go back to the store tomorrow probably, I know who served me. I think if they won’t refund me I will go on social media and make a fuss.

Call back customer services op and ask them what the next steps are? I know lidl like to process alot of customer service stuff via call centres rather than in sore - like sainsburys

Store

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 24/11/2020 18:04

73 pounds worth would probably be a significant amount of stock (guessing about 50p a packet?). So hopefully eaay to sort.

Ive bought large numbers of unusual items before, and apparently it's memorable.

icelollycraving · 24/11/2020 18:07

I’m sure they will refund, particularly if you spoke to customer services quickly.

Veterinari · 24/11/2020 18:34

They'll be able to match it to their stock levels and refund.

You don't need to plan your social media outrage yet.

But of a weird thread. Have you never been overcharged before? Just go back and speak to them

helpfulperson · 24/11/2020 18:39

If you had bought that many chocolate coins -140?- you would be the talk of the shop. I doubt they will have an issue refunding you. If all else fails a quick stock check will sort it.

butterpuffed · 24/11/2020 18:49

If you'd bought £73 of chocolate coins it would have made quite a gap on the shelf and they'd have noticed.

stairway · 24/11/2020 18:50

I don’t think I have been over charged before in a supermarket or maybe this is the first time I’ve noticed after leaving the store. These days they encourage customers not to get a receipt too and it’s not possible to pack and see how much is going through the till at the same time. As I said U rang Lidl and they said they would help me but they haven’t.

What did you/they say?

JaJaDingDong · 24/11/2020 18:53

Bloody hell OP! You'd be going out a bit to spend £197 in Lidl!!

stairway · 24/11/2020 18:57

They wanted some evidence which I sent them but I’ve heard nothing since and they haven’t responded to my latest email. I’m quite a shy person and id feel a bit embarrassed going back to the shop now a week later. I’d worry they’d think I was lying.

JaJaDingDong · 24/11/2020 19:01

So embarrassed you're prepared to forego £70?

Take someone feisty with you if you can't stand up for yourself. If you're in North Wiltshire I'll volunteer.

Peaseblossom22 · 24/11/2020 19:05

Every single time I have shopped at Lidl I have been charged incorrectly . Half the time it seems the prices that get rung through the till are not the ones displayed or they put the wrong number of items through. They have always been fine refunding though , I’ve always got the impression that it happens all the time

icelollycraving · 24/11/2020 19:26

I spend that in there quite frequently! Grin
stairway · 24/11/2020 19:28

I know JaJaDingDong I need to grow some ovaries. This is why I like shopping online. You notice a problem with the shopping click a few buttons and refund is processed no fuss. No going round a supermarket trying to find to find the one member of staff working and begging for a refund.

Any news yet? If not, call them.

MangoBiscuit · 25/11/2020 13:44

I had exactly the same thing with the bakery cookies once. Customer service asked me to go back the the store with my receipt, I did, they refunded. I did joke that they could either refund me, or give me the additional 40 odd cookies. They apologised and politely explained they didn't have that many, which left me wondering how many people actually try to buy 400 odd cookies in one go!

Just pop back in with your receipt OP, you won't be the first person to have done the same, and it's their mistake, not yours, no need to feel awkward about it.

stairway · 25/11/2020 16:40

I’ve called them again and they are sending me a voucher hopefully. So hopefully no need for my to start my Facebook campaign labelled Lidl on price yeah right!
