Good things you've realised from being home more in 2020....

I know 2020 hasn't been a great year for lots of people, frustrating for us as a family for a variety of reasons.

However, one thing I have really appreciated is that my family is central to everything I do and I've reconnected with my teenagers in a way that I didn't think possible.
I've not missed my extended family quite as much, I certainly have my parents, but the in-laws, we've not had any of the aggravation and frustration that comes from seeing them.
I love my house and realise it really is time to buy a new stairs carpet ( when the shops reopen) and I've really missed travelling on holidays etc.

What have you enjoyed about this year?

Being with my kids and doing the school run with them. Less manic running round trying to fit in all the clubs/activities and chilling as a family. Have done loads of decorating and my house is clean cosy and tidy.

Discovering my local park, seeing the seasons change on my daily walk, the joy of little squirrel hands taking a monkey nut from me at 7AM. sets me up for the day

Elasticated waistband and slippers for work. Lying that video calls cause my WiFi to stutter, so I can roll from bed to dining table while shrugging in a dressing gown without a care in the world.

Not being sandwiched on South eastern trains every workday with some blokes semi wedged up against my arsecrack.

Solid appreciation of people who don't have that choice to WFH. Understanding that society runs on people looking out for each other where provision isn't made by the state.

Realising how beautiful our local area is on foot and not whizzing by in car. Also reading, I stopped for years for some reason but have read several books this year.

If someone had told me in February that I’d spend most of 2020 taking care of DD without nursery, nanny, playdates, birthday parties, swimming, rhyme time etc I’d have told them to fuck right off. You may as well have told me to climb Everest. Actually - I did it, we coped, and I think I’m a better (or more aware) parent for it.
