I loved the advert, I thought it was a good piss take with the breathy emotiotiv singing, the teary eyed granddad, the christmas jumper and the dead carrots! Grin

Its just proving a point that all these adverts are about cynical commercialism isn't it?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/11/2020 17:51

Lidl was founded by Günther Schwarz

and Aldi-Süd and Aldi-Nord were founded by brothers.
I live in Aldi North area and I can't get basil flutes, only at Aldi South.

Krampusnacht · 24/11/2020 17:58

Just another reason to love Lidl

spongedog · 24/11/2020 19:09

basil flutes?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/11/2020 19:29

@spongedog
Did I say basil? Rubbish of course, I got my herbs mixed up. Sorry!

Rosmary flavored breadstick flutes, which Aldi north doesn't sell.

And if I remember correctly Aldi south's nappies were marginally better.

@KiposWonderbeasts

It;'s the whole point of their ad - taking the piuss out of the cutesy 'moving' emotional ads from other shops. Because they are right, it's about the food and the cost.

As well as the dead carrot there's the naff LIDL on the roof like the stupid ASDA advert, the snowman (waves to John Lewis) shut out in the snow, and the hint of a friendship between the girl and robin but she slams the window shut.

I though perhaps the old man and the dog from the Nissan Beds recent Christmas ad "we want you to feel sad" - but could also be a throwback to JL 'the man in the moon' a few years ago? and I assume the close up on the xmas pudding and cheese are supposed to be mocking M&S

So...did they only rush it through last minute or were the other adverts "leaked"? Grin
I couldn't notice any reference to Amazon which is one of the big ones..or is it mainly other supermarkets?

MercyBooth · 24/11/2020 20:16

The Tesco No one Is on the Naughty List advert seems to be subtle nod to the fact that.............THE PUBLIC ARENT TO BLAME. ITS A VIRUS.

Mumtumwobble · 24/11/2020 20:20

Ha ha, brilliant. It’s been a stressful day, but this made me laugh.

steppemum · 24/11/2020 20:21

dd and I saw it for the first time a couple of days ago and we both burst out laughing and couldn't stop.

best Christmas ad for that reason alone

keeprocking · 25/11/2020 20:52

@PurpleHoodie

UK Supermarket Advert Wars.

Love. It Star

(Better than the American advert shoite I endured watching online American Election updates).

Which other countries do fab' adverts?

I remember being in the States many years ago and there was a programme on about adverts and many of the British adverts were used, the thing they couldn't get their heards round was how sometimes the product is hardly mentioned at all. They showed the Rowan Atkinson Barclaycard ad as one example and the Renault Clio series of ads. I do find American adverts as subtle as a sledge-hammer, and I approve of this post!!! Sorry, you're probably beyond sick of hearing that.
GlomOfNit · 25/11/2020 22:33

How is it secret?? It hits you between the eyes! That and the 'emotional gravy'. Grin

I enjoyed it the first time around but I have to say, if ever there was a year for NOT doing a knowing, snide, cynical supermarket advert, 2020 was it.

durdur · 25/11/2020 22:50

I don't get the emotional gravy

SoupDragon · 25/11/2020 22:54

Emotional Gravy is in the Sainsbury's ad I think.

Badgerstmary · 25/11/2020 23:14

Love it. Haven’t seen the other Christmas ads yet but I’ll know actually watch them rather than flick past them.

Meraas · 26/11/2020 09:20

I saw it, got it and thought ‘meh’. It looks like a rush job, doesn’t compare with ‘Every Lidl helps’. Prefer the Tesco one.
