Emotional gravy and cute carrots Grin

What others did I miss?

FannysSteadiedBuffs · 24/11/2020 14:50

You can buy the jumper from the ad: www.lidl.co.uk/en/p/christmas-clothing/livergy-adults-lidl-christmas-jumper/p37636

HappydaysArehere · 24/11/2020 14:55

Must be pure in mind as still haven’t got it.

GatoradeMeBitch · 24/11/2020 14:59

I love the parody of the now-ubiquitous breathy female singer.

It's Christmas for crying out loud. Give Suggs a job Grin

olderthanilookapparently · 24/11/2020 15:01

Yes I spotted it straight away quite funny

Meraas · 24/11/2020 15:05

I'm not a fan of KtC but I think Lidl are a bit jealous that KtC has been such a hit for Aldi. I think it comes from sour grapes.

VettiyaIruken · 24/11/2020 15:08

@SoupDragon

😂

It's a "fuck you" to pretty much every Christmas ad!

Indeed it is and I bloody love it! 😂
KiposWonderbeasts · 24/11/2020 15:13

It;'s the whole point of their ad - taking the piuss out of the cutesy 'moving' emotional ads from other shops. Because they are right, it's about the food and the cost.

As well as the dead carrot there's the naff LIDL on the roof like the stupid ASDA advert, the snowman (waves to John Lewis) shut out in the snow, and the hint of a friendship between the girl and robin but she slams the window shut.

KiposWonderbeasts · 24/11/2020 15:17

Every company wants a Compare The Market "Meercat" type success.

It's weird, managing to get your advertising character so popular people will not only shop there but also buy your character merchandise. I'm glad the irksome root veg gets roasted at Lidl

iwanttolookbetter · 24/11/2020 15:17

Weird - this is almost the same but very slightly different to the one I've seen - where the bit with the robin says "is there a friendship to be had, nope this is Lidl's Christmas ad". At least I think that's the only difference. Haven't seen it for 6 hours or so. Wonder why that's different though. Intriguing. Good advert though.

EffYouSeeKaye · 24/11/2020 15:22

Grin I love it when Sainsbury’s get a jibe. It’s a great ad, thanks op.

keeprocking · 24/11/2020 15:36

That was my first thought when I saw it!

Autumnblooms · 24/11/2020 15:45

That is actually a really really good advert! Well done Lidl!

VanGoghsDog · 24/11/2020 15:47

@YetAnotherSpartacus

I've picked Aldi and Sainsburys - is there anyone else?
Bisto?
lottiegarbanzo · 24/11/2020 16:28

I saw the carrot with a face being speared. It seemed rather weird and horrible. Had no idea what it was supposed to symbolise.

Time2change2 · 24/11/2020 16:33

It’s not a secret- that is literally the point of the ad! It’s just making fun of other Xmas ads.
Plus aren’t the founder of Lidl and The founder of Aldi brothers anyway?

PurpleHoodie · 24/11/2020 16:33

UK Supermarket Advert Wars.

Love. It Star

(Better than the American advert shoite I endured watching online American Election updates).

Which other countries do fab' adverts?

WhoopsSomethingWentWrong · 24/11/2020 16:47

I saw it but it’s no secret... it’s the entire premise of the ad. They did a press release about it and it’s been covered in the media.

LITHIUMcomeasUare · 24/11/2020 16:56

The Lyrics are:

"Could a friendship be ahead? No. It’s a Christmas ad for Lidl with great prices instead!

The world is hushed and white with snow,
Lonely hearts meet through a window.
Could a friendship be ahead?
No it’s a Christmas ad from Lidl with great prices instead.

Free range British turkey, smell the magic,
A jumper with our logo and a pig in a blanket.
Great value parsnips, oh what a price!
Emotional gravy, that potato looks nice.

We don’t need cutesy characters when carrots taste this good.
We don’t want romance, we want award winning Christmas pud.

There’s usually a moment where we want you to feel sad…
But we don’t have time, look sparkling wine!
This cheese will make you feel so glad.
Proper Christmas magic is in cake and sprouts and gin.
At Lidl we’re Big on a Christmas you can believe in.

#BigOnLidlChristmas"

The robin was the Waitrose ad a few years ago, wasn't it?
Alexafrost · 24/11/2020 17:39

Do people actually shop at Lidl and Aldi? Don't they have a Waitrose near them? Or failing that at least a Sainsbury's.

user1471565182 · 24/11/2020 17:40

Sobeyond im sure somebody told me that Lidl and Aldi used to be one company of brothers who fell out, so if thats true you arnt far off with your theory

user1471565182 · 24/11/2020 17:40

yeah I shop at lidls cos I dont want to spend 2 grand a year on root vegetables
