What do hot flashes feel like?

Yes, I've googled but wanted to ask you lot because my body doesn't seem to match Google (stupid body).

I keep getting very flushed cheeks, with no apparent cause - it can happen before/after eating, before/after a cup of tea, before/after going into a hot area from a cold one etc. You get the gist. Has anyone had hot flushes where it only affects the face?

I am roughly the right sort of age for perimenopause as my mum went through the menopause proper aged 45 .

Opinions/commiserations/random online diagnoses welcome.....

Yup me. My hot flushes only effect my face. I had my menopause symptoms begin at about 47 and facial flushing like hot pin pricks and rosacea were my initial symptoms. I'm 59 now and on HRT Mine are caused by stress. When I'm really stressed small red veins appear on my face and they are really uncomfortable. Alcohol can also cause m to flush. Although I'm massively better with the HRT

Sorry I'm 49 now - I may feel 59!

Mine sort of went up my body, ending with my face. I didn’t mind them too much in the winter as I’m usually always cold! As it got warmer, though, they were a bit of a pain as I was getting 10 - 12 a day. My GP recommended red clover & it worked a treat. I was 51, which I think is bang on average.

I have had the flushed face thing, normally accompanied by cold hands but since going through a surgical menopause I now have whole body flushes. They feel like the overheating that's usually followed by fainting.

Mine were a whole body sudden blossoming of heat that made me want to strip off to my undies .. came out of nowhere but were often worse in the evening and after eating.. the last few months they were coming about 20 times a day and waking me at night. Usually I'm a chilly person!

I've just started HRT..two weeks ago and already the relief is fantastic! (I'm 52

Ooh, I have the cold hands as well!

My mother died of breast cancer so am somewhat leery of HRT, I must say. Did anyone who's on it get advised of increased cancer risk?

I posted something similar a while back and got lots of very helpful responses.

I have the facial flushing as a primary symptom too - it's like my head is on fire, it often happens after eating and bizarrely always happens after I have been to the pool to watch my sons swimming lesson (half an hour sitting behind a window with a mask on) - not having to take him has been the only positive of lockdown!

Sadly nothing seems to make it better apart from a cold cloth on my boiling face

I'm considering that evenflo - up til now I've had the flushing a few times each but it's felt constant for about 2 days now! I don't have time for my ovaries to have a shutting down sale, I've got stuff to do Grin

Only ever my face, up to 30 a day, and then the chilly cold afterwards.
Luckily all over now

CaffeineAndAlcoholFree · 24/11/2020 09:15

Yes, me too. I'm 51, and have only ever had the hot flashes to my face, but also I just seem to be a bit warmer than everyone else generally!
It's been going on for about 4 years now, but the periods still keep coming! Sad
