Fridge freezer dilemma

If you'd just discovered your fridge freezer had broken down, rendering it useless apart from the light, and contents rapidly turning to mush would you just close the door and think "fuck that till the morning"? Thankfully it is frost free, so no puddles.

I would unplug it and plug it back in again in the opening, mine started to work again after doing that. Seems it reset itself... worth a try?

ExpensivelyDecorated · 23/11/2020 21:37

I'd be asking local friends if they could store my stuff if it wasn't too far gone. Chuck things like ice cream but keep veg and cook any meat or fish.

KeeOe · 23/11/2020 21:38

Abso-fucking-lutely. It ain't going nowhere. Ignore and leave ' til the morning.

Ah thanks, will try unplugging right away, feel silly for not trying that first, but I was flummoxed by the light continuing to work.

Finding somewhere else to store it isn't really an option.

Just switched it on, it worked, but only for a few seconds, then the motor went off. It keeps doing that.

There's not really much I can do is there, apart from looking for a new FF to fit into a small and awkward space. I'd taken a fairly large order from Waitrose the day before ffs.

Sounds daft and I'm sure you've already checked but have you accidentally turned the thermostat down?

GeidiPrimes · 23/11/2020 22:09

Thanks Wouldstroke, that's the one thing I actually did consider before posting. The fucking ice cream's melted. Even the idea of having to actually eat the entire contents of my fridge isn't making me feel better (yet).

Whoop whoop, the ice cream hasn't completely melted!

Absolute nightmare. Cook what you can and eat tomorrow etc. Great news about the ice cream 😁

Fridge has come back on!!! Much gratitude to all! Contents are still mostly frozen, but I did lose 2 boxes of fruit pastille ice lollies in the fray. Reduced to sticks rattling around in a bag of syrupy liquid, sadly.

Excellent. Sometimes they just need a rest I think. Something else you could try if you don't already regularly do this is vacuum all the vents, which get clogged with dust.

It's not the time of year for it, but I revived our ancient FF one year in the summer by doing this.

AlwaysCheddar · 24/11/2020 07:28

I’d still get a new one as it will die soon,

GeidiPrimes · 24/11/2020 15:23

More fridge drama - it died again last night, so I ordered a new one this morning. Then I saw your post BarbaraofSeville, and gave it a vacuum (couldn't really see any vents tho) and emptied out the tanks that collects the water round the back... and it's working! I think I'll give it until tomorrow, and if it's still going strong, cancel the one on order, (hoping that I can!)
