For me it is The Law of Attraction. It completely change my life and I was wondering what else like this did I not know before?

But also when I was 14 my dad told me to stop talking about myself all the time. It was a revelation. I thought if I tell everyone how wonderful I am then they will believe it. From that point forward I didn't talk about myself, instead focused conversation around the other person and my friendships blossomed and I became more humble and less of a self absorbed twat.

That not everyone you confide in can be trusted. They will stab you in the back.

bluebird243 · 23/11/2020 17:53

Only your blood related family have your best interests at heart...or are even interested in you.

EggysMom · 23/11/2020 17:56

Shit happens. It's how you deal with it that matters.

Sometimesonly · 23/11/2020 17:57

Learning more about feminism and doing a lot of reading on the subject has really changed the way I see the world, not always for the better!

Wowcherarestalkingme · 23/11/2020 17:58

Drive as carefully as you can and assume no one else is.

Nosnogginginthekitchen · 23/11/2020 17:59

That throwing myself into life and taking risks isn't necessarily the bad idea my mum always made my feel it was. That if things go wrong then I have the strength to deal with that and the risks are totally worth it.

EternalOptimist7 · 23/11/2020 17:59

Not to give up on a relationship. DH & I absolutely hit rock bottom but now I am so glad I stuck with him & I love him more now than when we married ❤️

Raera · 23/11/2020 17:59

Please can your dad have a word with my brother OP?

LongPauseNoAnswer · 23/11/2020 18:00

Law of Attraction made me a self made millionaire! It changed my life.

Really understanding that what other people think of me is none of my business. My coach told me this and it was a revelation.

stayathomer · 23/11/2020 18:03

That people will not necessarily come around to your way of thinking in the end. That traditions don't necessarily need to stay the same forever and that everyone is entitled to their own opinions

MattBerrysHair · 23/11/2020 18:03

I learned as an adult that just because food is there doesn't mean I have to eat it. Seriously, it sounds ridiculous and obvious but it was a life changing realisation.

RednaxelasLunch · 23/11/2020 18:06

When someone vomits their emotional baggage all over you, you're allowed to say "nah" and cut them off.

user1471538283 · 23/11/2020 18:07

You cannot trust most people. You have to think of yourself and yours before anyone else.

Molly333 · 23/11/2020 18:17

That my mum was wrong yet all the rest of the family (men) will stand by her because she can play a brilliant victim

Gwenhwyfar · 23/11/2020 18:21

"Law of Attraction made me a self made millionaire!"

Are you serious?

LongPauseNoAnswer · 23/11/2020 18:27

Yes! I put the principles into my everyday routine. I built my business and it’s been wildly successful. I was so sceptical at first but I quickly saw results.
Constancevariable · 23/11/2020 18:29

How to say no, to things I don’t want to do or to requests of help I can’t give.

How to spot unhealthy relationships (friendships included) and withdraw appropriately.

littlecrayon · 23/11/2020 18:30

@LongPauseNoAnswer was there a particular book that you went to for guidance or can you give me any tips. I have only seen the movie the secret a couple of months back and that was my first introduction, please write an essay I am so curious as to what worked for you

LongPauseNoAnswer · 23/11/2020 18:34

@littlecrayon I saw The Secret which piqued my interest in it but the real life changing book was Get Rich Lucky Bitch by Denise Duffield Thomas. A friend gave it to me 5 years ago and everything took off after that. Just follow the easy steps in the book.

Good luck!!

littlecrayon · 23/11/2020 18:36

@LongPauseNoAnswer thank you so much I don't know that one!!

Conscious listening. I am trying to really listen to people ( instead of just listening to respond). It’s making me much more empathetic, not as self absorbed, and nicer to people in general. I am also trying to focus the conversation to other people (similar to you OP, instead of just going on about myself all the time). It’s caused positive changes in my relationships
