How old for bunk beds / kids sharing?

Hi,

I have a just turned 4 year old and a just turned 1 year old. Both hate sleeping alone, 1 year old currently in with me.

4 year old is keen on the idea of bunk beds and wants to share a room.

I was thinking of getting those bunk beds that have single on the top and double bed on bottom. That way there is a single bed for 4 year old on top if he wants it, by also a double on the bottom for if they both want to sleep together (I suspect they will) or for me or husband to sleep on bottom with 1 year old and 4 year old on top.

I know baby is probably too young for this at the moment, but I was thinking of buying them now and thinking the above might be possible when he is around 18months old?

Does anybody have any advice or do anything similar?

My sons share a bunk bed and have done since little. They are now 11 and 15 and looking to change this soon.

We had a set of bunk beds that split into two singles so they started in those and then we built them into bunks when they were older. The oldest is dyspraxic so it took quite a bit longer for him to be able to climb the ladder. They stayed in them until we moved house when they were 15 and 16. They moved into their own rooms at the point having shared since they were babies.
