Black box? Car insurance

does anyone have a black box with their car insurance to bring the price down? Is it worth it? Or should I avoid them? It's bringing my insurance down quite a bit so I am swaying towards getting one

My daughters had a black box, it was well worth it. We got cash back at the end as well. Saved about £700 on the cost.

We didn’t have one that had a curfew though as daughter had a pub job so couldn’t have driven home before the curfew.

My daughter has a black box on my car. No curfew and very easy to view all drives in the app. It doesn’t cause any problem and she enjoys the challenge of trying to get 5 stars every time. The insurers are only interested in when she’s driving so it doesn’t affect anyone else who drives the car.

I had one with Direct Line until I was 25, as did both of my housemates at the time. No curfews. I forgot it was even there apart from it making my insurance cheaper!

Ds 19 has got one. Records and monitors driving. Money off for good months!!

They can be quite restrictive so make sure you get the right policy for you if you go ahead.

I don't have one, however a friend of mine had her insurance voided because her black box had shown her driving at 90mph. I can't remember exactly what happened, but I took her months to argue the case and she was without car insurance for about 4 months because she couldn't afford the premiums whilst the voided issue was ongoing. It really put me off even considering one.

To add she wasn't driving at 90mph, and she did end up proving that.

They are also brilliant if your number plate gets cloned and you are sent solicitors letters for whatever the cloners got up to - you can easily prove beyond a doubt that you were not even in the area and therefore not the culprit (dc1 had this while they had a black box in their car, never been so grateful for it!)

My 18 year old has one, it brought the premium down quite a bit, he gets rewarded for sticking to the rules. My 21 year old has just got a car and is having one, I couldn’t have got insurance for him without one, I’d definitely recommend having one

One of our cars has a black box and it's been brilliant, I was sceptical but driving is currently at 100% rating without having to do anything special (e.g. normal acceleration and braking).
