IT access at work - have I messed up?

Disclaimer: I am feeling very anxious at the moment, so I'm aware I may be overreacting.

I am due to start a temporary job at my previous workplace later this week. There is a gap of a few weeks between being made redundant from my old role to starting this one next week. My old IT profile has been reactivated in advance of my start date. I was advised by the manager to download software needed to access the work systems. I downloaded the software as requested then thought I’d be helpful and see if I could log in ok prior to my start date, and found that I could. Then afterwards I had a panic and thought oh no, perhaps I shouldn’t have done that? All I did was log in, check I could access outlook and logged out again. I was able to do this using my old username and password. Have I stuffed up big time or is it my anxiety? Thanks.

No, you were just being prepared.

You're fine OP.

Backbee · 22/11/2020 17:28

It's fine as it's justifiable, ie I was logging on to check I had access.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/11/2020 17:30

No, if they were worried about you logging in it would have been the responsibility of the IT dept to ensure you couldn't. As they chose to re-employ you and reactivate your previous profile and you were told to download stuff, they presumably trust you.

I really can't see this being an issue at all.

No.
I’d say you’re being over anxious

You have downloaded the software required, and tested that it has installed correctly and are able to access it. You have done nothing wrong
It’s better than attempting on day one to find problems.

Do you mean because you needed the break to qualify for the redundancy?

It will be fine as your new contract and pay doesn't start until your official start date. You could in fact work for them as a volunteer in between if you were so inclined.

It's fine Flowers

Thanks everyone for the support and sense check, really appreciate it.
Yes, my anxiety is definitely through the roof at the moment!

No, I would say that was very sensible, checking your logins still worked - if they had t you’d ha e flagged up with IT so they could fix it for your start date.
