KitchenAid stand mixer - are they worth the money?

I've been saving up for a KitchenAid for a long time and hoping to get one in the Black Friday sales.

Anyone have one? Are they worth the money? I bake a lot and want something that will last and look good on the worktop. I've considered a Kenwood KMix too as I think they're great too from whay I've heard but my heart always goes back to the KA. They're SO expensive though and although I've saved up the money now I don't want to waste it if they're not worth the expense!

Yes, I think it's worth it! I use mine a lot. I am slowly getting more attachments for it.

TheFoz · 22/11/2020 15:37

I’m exactly the same! I’ve been saving since January. I have a Kenwood and I don’t love it. The whisk doesn’t hit the bottom of the bowl completely so I always have to whisk manually to get what it has missed.
Moving into a new house too so I’m looking forward to seeing it on the counter top! I have my eye on some Le Crueset as well!

Fittata · 22/11/2020 15:38

I had the same thoughts as you and I love mine. Saves so much time as you just chuck the ingredients in one at a time while you're putting away/getting out the next ingredient and by the time your baking is in the oven there's barely any tidying up to do.
So quick to whisk eggs/make icing/knead bread etc. And looks pretty!

BoulangerieBabs · 22/11/2020 15:40

We have a kitchen aid and a Kenwood, the Ken is far superior than the KA, the KA looks prettier.

picklemewalnuts · 22/11/2020 15:43

It lasts a life time.

I managed to bend my whisk so it makes and annoying grinding sound.

Generally though, it's great. 20 years old, now.

I bought the Kenwood, after deliberating for ages. The heart said KA but the head prevailed!
Jellycatspyjamas · 22/11/2020 15:44

I have a kitchen aid, it’s 20 years old, looks like new and works perfectly - I use it 2/3 times a week and fully expect it to last a lifetime. In terms of cost per use it’s not at all expensive.

Joolsin · 22/11/2020 15:48

I agree with all the KA lovers - I have had mine for 10 years now, still love it as much as ever. It's just so darn pretty!!

Squiffany · 22/11/2020 15:50

Yes, I’ve had mine about 6 or 7 years after coveting one for years.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 22/11/2020 15:52

I’m a Kenwood girl myself. Mine is from the late 70’s and still going strong.
It’s older than me Grin

HironsBirons · 22/11/2020 15:55

I bought mine during lockdown and I adore it. Worth every penny, I use mine for everything. It makes amazing mashed potatoes!

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 22/11/2020 15:56

i love mine...I wish it was a nicer colour, it's the dark grey with a metallic fleck/glitter, but it was a really good offer, with a scraper beater, a glass bowl, and the cook book, case of wine and a knife set with knife block

Bread making is a complete breeze...as pp said, shake out the ingredients, put them away and you are done!

Daisydoesnt · 22/11/2020 16:01

Goodness OP buy British and buy quality - it's got to be the Kenwood all the way. The KA is American and all style-over-substance. Can you tell I prefer the Kenwood? They are far, far superior.

As an aside to the PP who said I have a Kenwood and I don’t love it. The whisk doesn’t hit the bottom of the bowl completely so I always have to whisk manually to get what it has missed

If you look in the instruction manual you can adjust the height of the whisk so that it will hit the bottom of the bowl.

emeraldcity2000 · 22/11/2020 16:10

Agree with the kenwood lovers on here. It's not as pretty but my kenwood is a beast. I probably love it more than my dh.

ivfbeenbusy · 22/11/2020 16:18

I love mine! The ice cream Maker attachment is ace! BUT the attachments are very expensive

cookiemonster5 · 22/11/2020 16:22

I have relented and got one on order. I've been listing after a KA for years and my husband said I go order one. I have one on order but stock isn't due in till December so I can cancel it if/when Black Friday hits.

I deliberated between KA and Kenwood but all my research led back to KA.

nimbuscloud · 22/11/2020 16:24

Have had a kenwood for years. Dd got a kitchenaid mini 2 years ago so that is what I use now. Love it.

FloreanFortescue · 22/11/2020 16:25

They are indescribable and timeless! I'd never have anything else.

FloreanFortescue · 22/11/2020 16:26

That should be indestructible!

AwkwardAsAllGetout · 22/11/2020 16:28

I swapped my k mix for a kitchen aid as tbh I was seduced by the look of it. I have a centenary blue one with white hobnail bowl and it’s GORGEOUS. But the K Mix was a better piece of kit in all honesty. It pisses me off endlessly that the splash guard was useless on the KitchenAid so I got rid of it, resulting in a cloud of flour or icing sugar every time it’s used. I don’t think the motor is as powerful either. But boy is it pretty

picklemewalnuts · 22/11/2020 16:35

Yes, the splash guard is useless. I don't know if the kenwood is equally so.

I like the KA because it's lovely enough to leave out on the surface, so it gets lots of use. Sadly it's yellow (beautiful) and my kitchen no longer is. When I move, I'll make sure the kitchen matches the kitchen aid!

@Daisydoesnt have you had both the KA and Kenwood? Did you find the Kenwood does the job better?

Love mine. Just upgraded to the KitchenAid Planetary Food Mixer (even better).

Kitchen Aid here too, it was my husband's 40th. birthday present from me! (He had wanted one for years) You say you have your eye on some Le Creuset - I treated our kitchen to a full set of pots, pans, casserole etc. (wonderful bonus that year!!) A WARNING - we have had the KA and Le Creuset for over 20 years now - no problems with the equipment, still bring excellent results, BUT they are now feeling so heavy!! I can't lift the KA from one spot to another. When Le Creuset larger pots / casserole are full I can't lift them at all. I am a great fan of both, they do last a lifetime but do your wrists??
