What relation are we?

I met someone today. Turns out we are distantly related but not sure what we are. He is calling me Cuz Grin.

His paternal uncle married my paternal aunt. That is, his dads brother married my dads sister.

Any ideas?

You aren’t related.

BikeRunSki · 21/11/2020 21:23

None

AnnaSW1 · 21/11/2020 21:24

Yeah I think you're not related

ZaZathecat · 21/11/2020 21:25

No blood relationship, just sort of cousin-in-laws.

myhobbyisouting · 21/11/2020 21:26

Not related

FadedRed · 21/11/2020 21:29

His dad’s brother is his uncle and also is your uncle-by-marriage.
Your dad’s sister is your aunt and his aunt-by-marriage.
But as pp’s said, he and your are not related.

Just related by marriage. Cousins in law Smile

I don’t think even cousins in law. I think of my DH’s cousins as cousins in law.

But my cousins’ cousins are not part of my family at all, though I always find it odd that they have other cousins.

Cousins thru marriage. Any family member through blood or marriage who isn't specifically an aunt, uncle, or in-law, is a cousin (cousin-in-law, cousin by marriage, first cousins, second cousins, third cousins, step-cousins, etc.) There is a saying in Georgia that if you go back far enough, everyone is a cousin, since it all started with Adam and Eve.

You aren’t related.

You just have relatives in common.
