7 year old autistic DS making so much progress with speech but regressing in other ways... normal?

DS is 7. He has never been able to speak but is now suddenly coming out with words and even short sentences!

He can now say

  • no Grin - he did have that one since the toddling stage!
  • okay
  • ipad
  • Mum/ Dad
  • his teacher and support assistants' names
  • his friends' names
  • hungry
  • foods he likes

Yesterday we were in the car and he said 'lights on!'

Shock Shock [shocks]

However he has regressed in so many other ways. He used to be quite placid but is now running everywhere. He never stops eating and we've had to lock away food. He has coped well in mainstream until now (he likes words and numbers) but has not settled since returning in Sept. He has started to hit his teacher and the support assistants :(

Has anyone else gone through this? Is he likely to settle down again?
