Is it possible to change who you're attracted to?

I've realized recently that the people I'm attracted to are people who I don't exactly have the healthiest relationships with. But at the same time, I really have no idea how to be attracted to anyone else.

I'm very much drawn to people I can care for/build up, but it always ends with them pushing me away because they feel like they don't deserve to be treated well.

I think some good counselling could really help you here. You've taken the first step by recognising an unhealthy relationship pattern. It's certainly not a quick fix, but things can change for you.

This might be a silly question, but how do I actually get counseling?

Do you live in the UK? You can refer yourself. I agree you need some kind of professional guidance to work out why you're a "rescuer".

I don't think that's something a few words of advice can resolve, it's a therapy issue.
