Night sweats - what is this fresh hell

Every night this last week I've woken up in bed at night soaking with sweat. It's only on my chest and upper back. Legs remain non sweaty. I'm nearly 40...could this be the start of being pre menopausal? I haven't been getting 'day sweats'?

Yes ! For four days I am on my period for the past two months it's quite weird and I'm not normally a sweaty person.
I'm convinced it's perimenopause

It sounds like it. I'm menopausal and I didn't have hot flashes. After a few years I had terrible night sweats, foggy brain, feeling down and aching knees. I only had night sweats on my front but would eventually wake up to 3 times a night absolutely soaked with wet bed linen. It is miserable. HRT saved me

Paranoidmarvin · 21/11/2020 17:35

Yup. I sleep with my window open and I sleep right next to it. And I still wake up over hot. I don’t wear long sleeve T-shirt’s in bed anymore.

I get mine during the day as well. I used to wear vest tops under everything I wore. Not now. The thought of that is horrifying.
Welcome to peri menopause it’s great.

FYI. Your periods will probably start going funky as well.

Please do speak to your GP op. There are other things besides peri menopause that can cause night sweats.

RosieLemonade · 21/11/2020 17:43

I’m only 30 and have had this since I had my DD. Not all the time. Worse when I’m stressed. I find wearing cotton is better than going naked.

dreamingofsun · 21/11/2020 17:44

agree with doctor, check this out. You might also find that doing certain things sets it off - eg for me drinking alcohol especially red wine

LucyLemons · 21/11/2020 18:07

Do not assume this is the menopause or peri. It's unlikely at 39 and even if it was, you need to see a dr anyway because there are certain things that need consideration with an early menopause

Women are too quick to put various symptoms down to the menopause - even if you're of menopause age you should always get new symptoms checked out

Punkatheart · 21/11/2020 18:10

Speak to a doctor. Night sweats can also be a symptom of lymphoma although if you don't have other symptoms, it may not be likely.

olivo · 21/11/2020 18:11

I spoke to my Dr today about peri menopause and was I too young (clutching at strawsGrin) she said from 45 quite normal, under that, not so. I would get some checks if I were you.

TippledPink · 21/11/2020 18:19

I suffer with night sweats- I am 35. Never looked into it just thought I was a sweaty person!

RedDiamond · 21/11/2020 18:24

I second and third speaking to your GP. At your age, night sweats may well not be attributed to the menopause.

How are you feeling in general? How are your bowels?

tofuschnitzel · 21/11/2020 18:28

Are you taking any medication? I get terrible night sweats. I was tested for peri menopause, but that came back fine. My GP has concluded that it is most likely down to one of the medications I am on for anxiety. I have always had very vivid dreams and nightmares, which may contribute to the night sweats too.

U2HasTheEdge · 21/11/2020 19:54

Are you due on your period?

At age 38 I started getting night sweats the week before my period.

I am 39 now, and pretty sure I am peri-menopausal, but it can happen at any age.

Chipsahoy · 21/11/2020 20:40

I do if my hormones are imbalanced. I mostly just get it during my period.
Were you sweaty during pregnancy postnatal and breast feeding? I find any hormone disturbance makes night times horrible!

I assume nothing sinister as it’s been happening on and off since my first child was born. He’s 12 now.

Givemestrengthorgin · 21/11/2020 21:03

Thanks everyone. I will definitely make an appointment to see my GP next week to discuss and hopefully rule out a more sinister cause. I'm not on any medication. I do remember getting similar sweats in the first few weeks after having my first DC. I have had a stressful week and wonder if it could be anxiety but I have suffered from anxiety in the past and never had this as a symptom.

I'm nearly 50 and I get night sweats when I'm fighting off my kids germs.... last week it was the flu jab I was pooled in sweat 😓😬

Milomonster · 21/11/2020 21:47

43 and I’m drenched in sweat for a week just before and during my period. I’m pretty sure mine is down to hormones as my periods are horrendous. Do get yourself checked out.
