Weird things that ruined your life

Ok maybe "ruined" is a bit dramatic, but certainly didn't help!

I can't sleep and I'm thinking about someone i used to work with. We were both vegan and would chat in the kitchen a lot. We had nothing in common besides our diet and he would often seek me out to try to convince me to be more vegan - I wore leather, which he didn't like.

Anyway. He was a bit of a challenging colleague and ended up getting managed out of the business, I think there was a bit of misconduct. Everyone thought we were friends and I was treated with suspicion and given the cold shoulder by his manager and her friends, even after he left.

I wonder how differently my career would have gone otherwise. The cherry on top is that I'm not even vegan anymore. Blush

Being duped into thinking what I said to one friend was in confidence. We talked all the time, the reality was he was extremely two faced and nasty. He was claiming I had said x and y when it was really him and he was using me as a mouthpiece. I was oblivious til it was too late and he significantly damaged several of my friendships.

I have always looked really young for my age. Now as I approach my 50s. I really appreciate it but in my younger years it caused lots of difficulties.

I was never allowed to sneak into pubs with my friends when we were underage as I would give the game away. I missed out on about two years of illicit nights out and the subsequent social life. I was dropped by my two best friends who became part of the 'cool' group.

I looked about 13 until I was in my 30s and was turned down for lots of jobs in the field I wanted to work in. Ended up in academia until I realised it was definitely not for me.

My sex life was severely restricted. The men I liked often felt uncomfortable being out with me. I seemed to be attractive to macho controlling men who are not to my taste at all.

I was asked to appear in a TV series as an expert in my field but then was passed over for someone else as I looked too young. I sooo wanted to be on TV and had told all my family and friends 😞.

Life not ruined but it all could have been so different.

That sounds very much like a double-edged sword! Would you say you look more your age now?

No - 20-10 years younger depending on what I'm wearing. I'm still sometimes asked for ID when buying alcohol.

It hasn't been much of an advantage until recently.
