Solve this argument for me - was I’m a Celebrity ever shown ‘live’ (eg overnight)?

I very vaguely remember my mum watching I’m a Celeb live on ITV2 back in 2003ish - I’m sure Linda Barker was one of the contestants ... I don’t remember them doing that for very long but I’m sure I remember it being on live at times, you could watch them doing mundane stuff/arguing rather than just the same trials/challenge format each night .

Sort of like how Big Brother used to be on all night on E4 and you could watch them sleeping ... wasted hours on that too around about 2003/4ish ..

Am I remembering that right, or has I’m a celeb always just been one hour at night?

I don’t think it was. Are you sure you’re not confusing it with Big Brother?

Usernameisgone · 21/11/2020 00:15

No, that was big brother

noneedforthat · 21/11/2020 00:17

I maybe am confusing it with BB yes... it is a very vague memory as I was only 11/12 at the time !

I think I have seen it live too now I've read this! I can picture the bunks and sleeping bags in night vision with basically nothing happening!

If it never was you've successfully implanted a memory in my brain!!

IhateBoswell · 21/11/2020 00:25

They show clips from night time in the normal show though.

Showchin2 · 21/11/2020 00:45

Pretty sure there used to be a live feed overnight on ITV2? Maybe that's what you remember

gracefull · 21/11/2020 01:06

Yeah I also remember this circa Peter Andre/Katie Price season, the night vision cameras etc but I’m not 100% convinced they didn’t just show clips of the night before in the show either

Immediately after the conclusion of the main evening show on ITV, there was normally a 2-3 hour long discussion and chat about events over on one of the secondary ITV channels. This was often interspersed with live footage of exactly what was going on in the camp at the time, so the answer to your question is yes, there has been periodic live footage of the camp down the years. I'm just not certain that ever extended to full 'overnight' live footage.

ItsNotNormalLove · 21/11/2020 01:10

Yes it absolutely was on live overnight. I don't think it was ALL night long but certainly late night, yes. I'm much older than you and remember it clearly. Sometimes they'd talk about stuff that could've had legal implications and they'd mute it until they changed the subject. (They did this on BB too but I didn't watch that as much!)

SamsMumsCateracts · 21/11/2020 01:12

I'm certain it was on overnight. I remember falling asleep to it and waking up an hour or so later to turn the tv off.

ilovepixie · 21/11/2020 01:14

This rings a bell with me too.

ItsNotNormalLove · 21/11/2020 01:24

It wasn't part of the other show that aired straight after on another ITV channel. There were no presenters, it was just a live feed directly into the camp as I recall.

3kidsnomore · 21/11/2020 01:30

I'm sure I remember big brother being on all night

fizzandchips · 21/11/2020 01:47

Yes definitely.
I know because I was doing night feeds with twins at the time. I watched it a lot!

PumpkinSpicedLatte · 21/11/2020 01:49

Yes I remember too, definitely . I remember the hammocks and general nature sounds

Caramelblonde · 21/11/2020 13:05

I think I remember Carol Thatcher doing a wee on the floor next to her hammock in the night !
