Found £3k of fraud on my credit card.

So I've just got my monthly statement only to find over 100 Google play transactions totalling nearly £3K! No one has a google play account in the family and no one else has access to my card.
I've contacted the card company and have now just finished filling in a very long request on google play's help centre's web page. Had to list every single transaction 105 times!
Anyone else had this? What did the transactions look like on your statement? Google have up to 28 day to rectify mean time I have no credit card for Xmas shoppiong!

Any games on any phones or tablets? That's where Google play payments can be made

Corcory · 20/11/2020 22:16

Yes games on phones but not from google apps.

Is it an android phone? And your games aren't from the Play store?

It doesn't have to be a Google app to use Google pay.

Are you sure someone at home hasn't been racking up the payments on a phone game?

I had fraud in my bank credit card and the bank refunded it within 24hrs, cancelled the card and reissued without me needing to do anything other than notify them. Talk to the bank/provider again and see if they can sort for you.

nimbuscloud · 20/11/2020 22:48

I know it’s too late now but do you not have online banking? Or an app that you can check on a daily basis?
I’m sure you will get refunded if it was fraud though.

RLOU30 · 20/11/2020 22:48

It will be the games if your phones are android. Any kids around linked to your accounts ? I hope not but it’s a very common problem when it comes to in app purchases!

Surely your credit card fraud team should have picked this up long before it got to such a figure. Mine seem to contact me for even small weird spending.

I have an iPhone. I contacted the credit card company (M & S) when they sent me a text saying I was nearing my limit, I clear the account every month so I knew that couldn't be true. I phoned and cancelled my card and they went through a few transactions which was when I discovered the problem. They referred it to the fraud dept. who phoned me a couple of days later verifying that it was Google play which I don't have. My new card arrived and I activated it but couldn't use it for some reason only to discover they hadn't actually removed the google play transactions and had only put a stop on them. So had to get through to the fraud team again, to discover I had to actually contact Google to verify they are fraudulent. So 9 days on and I still don't have my credit restored!! Oh, I do have internet banking for my bank but not for this credit card. Am now arranging it, have to wait till a code is sent by post as I don't have the right app. apparently!

What websites have you used you're credit card at over the last few months, one of them might of had a data breach, Google play cards are what scammers love to use as it's easy transferable/sellable cash

Corcory · 21/11/2020 11:52

Good point NekoShiro. I'll have a look through my statements. The thing I find very frustrating about the whole thing is how poor M & S have been. I informed them on the 11th Nov. and thought the fraud dept. had sorted it out on the 13th only to discover that they've done nothing and didn't bother to tell me about contacting Google play until yesterday. I waited on the phone for the fraud dept. to answer for 35 mins only to be cut off! then took 50 mins to get through only to be told to contact Google play who aren't answering phone queries so you have to list every fraudulent use separately on an online forms 105 times!!
