I need a plumber's help. Anyone a plumber on here?

We have a system boiler and a bungalow conversion. The upstairs ensuite shower runs far too hot, I am scalded pretty much every time I use it. It can barely stand under it and look like a lobster when I come out.

The water pressure on the house is set to the highest it can go and the water is set to the lowest.

The shower we have downstairs seems fine temperature wise.
Upstairs cold water pressure isn't as good as downstairs.

Any help appreciated!

Isn't it adjustable? The shower heat I mean?

Horehound · 20/11/2020 22:19

Err I have a scale of 1-7 and they don't vary much. Too hot to scolding....

@pigletjohn I seem to remember someone saying you have plumbing knowledge. Hope I got the name right.

@PigletJohn can you help?

Horehound · 20/11/2020 22:42

Also just went up and took off the dial and turned the valve bit both ways just seems to be hot water. However there's no brand of shower on any facings so I'm not sure if we were just tubing the valve aimlessly or if we need to move something else to get to the RSL?

Can you post a photo of the mixer?

When did it last work properly?

What colour is your hot-water cylinder?

Horehound · 21/11/2020 09:05

Hi, please see attached. It definitely worked for at least one or two years but has been bad for over a year I'd say. Been here four years.
Thank is cream and I think there's a megaflo system installed as well

Ok, the the hot water is pressurised. Put your thumb over the spout of the hot tap in the bathroom, and turn it on. Can you hold back the flow?

Now do the same with the cold tap. Can you?

Are there any water tanks (apart from the hot cylinder)?

Horehound · 23/11/2020 21:29

Sorry for not getting back to you! Been busy. took the mixer off and turned the valve and the last two showers I have had have been perfect. So fingers crossed that fixes it!

perhaps the thermostatic control had somehow gone out of alignment with the knob.

Horehound · 23/11/2020 22:14

Yes seems like that is the answer. I did also notice there's a crack on the inside of the knob so maybe when I'm turning it, it's like moving too much each time.

If you can't find the makers name for a replacement knob, there is a company called Lunns that specialises in shower spares.

Horehound · 23/11/2020 22:39

I'm pretty sure it's a Daryl shower but it is weird as there is no brand on the shower itself. Luckily previous house owners left folders of house info and I found the receipt for it. :)

Last two days have been scorching again. I played around with it in my last shower and it got a bit better but could be because I'd been in the shower with the water running a while but I checked the sink tap and it was very hot.

The cold pressure is definitely less than the got water pressure but I'm sure the cold water pressure is set to the max.

I need to have a look at that website for spares because the inside of the temp knob is cracked and I do think that won't be helping when I'm trying to turn the dial.
