Door bells! Guide me.

I need to research and order a door bell for a sort of portakabin.

I am not sure that we will be allowed to drill holes through the wall itself (we can screw the bell push to the frame outside, and the bell-unit on the inside, tho).

Can you get properly wireless ones? Are they any good? The portakabin is fairly substantial, but the bell push and the bell-unit will be no more than 2' apart, I'd say, with the wall in between.

TIA

I have one where the indoor unit is plugged into a socket and the doorbell unit is attached by a velcro strip so no drilling required

This is the kind of thing we have

We’ve had one like that and it was fine.

We have a battery operated one we got at Robert Dyas. The bell push literally sticks to the door frame, and the bell part is moveable; you can hang it on a hook, or carry it around with you into the garden etc. It also has a choice of about a dozen different ring-tones (including a dog barking!)

Thanks all so much!

I feel like a troglodyte idiot in that I had no idea you can now get £12 plug'n'play units!

Tho, in my defence, the last doorbell I had any doin's with was probably 1975.

Ding Dong! 🛎

At that point of history, you had to drill through door frames to install a door bell.

I had no idea!

What chime do you recommend?! 😂

We've got ours set for Big Ben chimes. It also has the advantage that if someone goes by on a similar frequency and sets it off, it rings with a different tone; so we know it's not someone at the door and can ignore it.
