Takeaway or afternoon tea?

It's DP's birthday next weekend. We would usually go out for dinner so I was thinking of getting a takeaway instead. But I've just seen a local company advertising home delivery afternoon tea. Afternoon tea sounds more fun and special but we never have takeaway and I really quite fancy a curry although I know it's not about me
Which would you prefer?

Takeaway without doubt.

iklboogeymum · 20/11/2020 11:02

For evening type celebration definitely a takeaway. Afternoon tea is, well, in the afternoon.

Scarby9 · 20/11/2020 11:04

Does your DP like afternoon tea?

AriesTheRam · 20/11/2020 11:06

Afternoon tea at 3pm and takeaway at 8pm

Lemondrops41 · 20/11/2020 11:08

I would ask him which he would prefer as it's his birthday.

This year DP and I had both had a takeaway in the evening for our birthdays (after the kids had gone to bed) and we did the afternoon tea for both the DC's birthdays in the afternoon. Both were very nice. I guess it depends which part of the day he would like to celebrate?

Sewrainbow · 20/11/2020 11:09

Both?

CoolYourBeansMySon · 20/11/2020 11:12

Both? I like your thinking!
I don't want to ask him as I want it to be a surprise. I don't know if he does like afternoon tea particularly, but - a selection of cakes? What is there not to like Grin
As for the time of day - if we have afternoon tea, I'll do brunch but if takeaway in the evening then we'll have breakfast and lunch as usual. Let's face it, with lockdown there will be little else going on!

Definitely takeaway. Afternoon tea sounds a bit of a let down. I can make myself a pot of tea and buy sandwiches and cake from the shop.

That's a valid point well made!

Afternoon tea will be quite light I would think, so have that followed by a take away in the evening.

NeilBuchananisBanksy · 20/11/2020 11:32

Both, plus a slap up birthday breakfast 😁

I would do your own little afternoon tea and then have a take away. The afternoon teas I’ve seen don’t look very good value. Couple of dry sandwiches and a scone. You could have a few really luxurious items for the price

cyclingmad · 20/11/2020 11:57

Definitely takeaway, you could make your own afternoon tea. I mean unless they are providing truffle or caviar no way

ILiveInSalemsLot · 20/11/2020 12:00

Have a birthday cake afternoon tea then go for the takeaway.
Light some candles and play music if you want it to be more of an occasion.

Marmite27 · 20/11/2020 12:03

Takeaway. The afternoon tea we had during lockdown was a bloody disappointment.

I could have done better for half the cost and had twice as much!

Roominmyhouse · 20/11/2020 12:05

Curry all day long and I love afternoon tea! Get a cake or some scones for after the curry if you have space?

TurquoiseDragon · 20/11/2020 12:33

I'd have the takeaway, as I can make a really nice afternoon tea if I want.

HopeAndDriftWood · 20/11/2020 12:35

Takeaway. Afternoon teas are always a bit disappointing. Just buy some cake and have it for lunch 😁

CoolYourBeansMySon · 20/11/2020 12:36

Thanks for your input everyone. I'll get a birthday cake to have with a cuppa in the afternoon and takeaway for dinner. Yum.

If you decide to go for afternoon tea, I recommend Cutter and Squidge, we were given one last year and it was fantastic - the scones are part baked and perfect after a few minutes in the oven.
