Do you use torrent sites etc, are they still popular?

My sister in law is quite tech savey and seems to get everything of the internet for free, music, books, audiobooks, films, magazines, software etc. I remember back in the day I used limewire to download music it took forever for just one song! Now with streaming services I don't bother but then again the subscriptions all add up to an eye watering amount!

So is piracy still something a respectable lady would do?

No, it isn’t. There is plenty of legitimate free stuff out there, you just have to tolerate the advertising. Try your library website for free magazines.

I don’t think piracy has ever been ‘something a respectable lady would do’... Hmm It’s just theft.

Yes Smile

I just wanted to see if it was still something people would do, I'm the least tech savvy person out there, I have benefited from what my SIL downloads at times as she sometimes puts films or shows on a usb for us.

Of course it is. It’s still easy to do. I normally download the latest kids movies and put them on usb sticks to watch.

Ignore all the goodie two shoes.

Immediately thought of this from the IT Crowd Grin

And I do stream the odd thing through nefarious means on my jailbroken fire stick (cough instructions are available online through a quick Google cough) but I also subscribe to a few things and routinely cycle around my subscriptions to spread my money around a bit and support the artistes, because I do an arty job myself and appreciate that artists need to eat too.

@Ghostlyglow & @Elfieishere Grin interesting, yeah we saw a recent expensive exclusive remake recently on a stick, to be honest glad I didn't pay for it as it was crap!

The magazines in my Library are crap, SIL gets all the nice ones like In the Moment for free to read on her ipad, which she can afford to buy because she doesn't pay for all the actual magazines. The books at my local library as all rubbish too, all chicklit and crime which I don't like.

@MostDisputesDieAndNoOneShoots lol, the IT crowd was great! I think how you do it is a good way to do it!

You can jump in and out of streaming services - if you cancel NowTV they always offer you a big discount to stay as well.

redtinheart · 19/11/2020 17:16

@vanillandhoney I know and I do at times but it would be cheaper just to get it all free! Obviously this is moot as I don't know how!

There are plenty of ways to do it if you just give it a quick google.

Personally I would just subscribe to one "option" each month, and switch about depending on what each service has available.

Kpo58 · 19/11/2020 17:18

My DH does. Unfortunately streaming services don't always have the programs that I want to watch on them.

Rudolphian · 19/11/2020 17:23

Oh the good old days.
I think it changed to steaming via fire sticks and roku etc.
Not sure what it changed to next.
I dont have time any more.
Cos of the kids we just watch youtube now. Hopefully when they're older.

KilljoysDutch · 19/11/2020 17:27

I'll stop when Netflix gives us the US library which is so much bigger than the UK one Grin I pay for netflix and amazon but also use HiMovies. I stopped for a long time just using netflix but now all the shows are on different platforms again and it's stupid.

Plussizejumpsuit · 19/11/2020 17:57

Yeah it's still easily done. Get a vpn too
