Lump in breast

OK. So I'm a 26 year old and I'm freaking out because I found a lump in my breast. I'm sure its nothing as it does move but I booked a doctors appointment to be sure. The doc referred me immediately to the breast clinic after examining. Really worried so any opinions welcome.

Easier said than done but try not to worry, I found one when I was your age and when I went to the breast clinic the staff there were excellent and really put me at ease. I would recommend taking a paracetamol before any biopsy so it’s less uncomfortable afterwards, and i think I had to wear a bra for 24 hrs after so if you’ve got one without an underwire that might be less irritating for you. I think I'm panicking more because I only went for the docs app on the eve of the 17th and received a letter today (19th) saying if I hadn't heard anything by the 20th to call in. Just seems like a hugely fast turn around! I hope your well now x

@Laj00025 No problem at all. Yes thank you, I was diagnosed with a fibroadenoma, they’re benign and depending on their size can be left where they are if they’re not causing you any discomfort, so once I had my results letter through, it all kind of ended there. Hopefully it’s the same for you, I think they are quite common in younger women, at least that’s what my doctor said to me. I remember a fast turn around for the appointment so try not to read too much into that. I had to wait ages for my results though which was a total pain. Hopefully yours come back quick too xxx

I spent most of a day in the waiting room of a breast clinic while my mum had a lump checked. I watched a lot of people going in and the VAST majority came out with big smiles on their faces, because most breast lumps are benign.

Well done for going to your GP quickly and I'm glad your GP has referred quickly too, as that's what's meant to happen - doesn't mean it's anything to worry about.

Same for me, fibroadenoma and for a close friend of mine too. Very quick referral to breast clinic and they told me on the day they thought from the scans and examination it was a benign ' breast mouse' so all relatively stress free. The biopsy was fine, so quick and totally painless.

They called it a 'mouse' because it moves around under the skin.

I've got one too. Mammogram on Tuesday. It's easy to say, but try not to worry about it - it won't help.

I had this in first lockdown. Saw Gp, referred under 2 week wait and about 11 days later was seen in the clinic. A mammogram, an ultrasound, an exam and all was ok. Just lumpy breast diagnosis.

I had this and they told me 9 out of 10 it’s benign, like a cyst. Mine was a cyst, and they drained it.

It’s a worry and you want to know ASAP, but they deal with it very quickly (I was tested, result given and cyst drained all within a few hours on the same day).

Breast problems are always referred quickly. Some women are prone to cysts they’re very common, I’ve had two. Biopsy & draining were painless.

I’ve had this three times, and always it had turned out to be innocent/benign reasons.

I'm impressed you are all being seen so quickly. I was told that urgent referrals to the breast clinic are taking 10 weeks at the moment.

A few months ago I felt a movable lump and went to the gp. She said she thought it wasn't anything to worry about but doing her due diligence she put me on the 2 week pathway and it was precisely as she said nothing serious. But I was really worried none the less! I think it is natural to worry but you are going to see the gp and that's good.

You've already had quite a lot of reassuring replies but couldn't read and run. I'm the same age and found a small lump when pregnant last year, got referred under the 2 week pathway, had an ultrasound and they said just fatty tissue where it meets the chest wall, had to go back post birth to double check and they said it has probably always been there just became more noticeable during pregnancy. I was so worried though and googled loads, the waiting was horrible, but majority are benign and I found other peoples experiences helpful so just wanted to add mine.

The waiting is awful, you have my sympathies. It is very hard not to imagine the worst.

As others have said, most lumps are benign and seem to be very common. I had a cyst when breastfeeding some years ago. I also found a lump recently which the GP was concerned about as it didn’t move, but it turned out to be just normal breast tissue. I had convinced myself it had spread to my armpit by the day of the appointment but no, thankfully all fine.
