iPad factory reset

Anyone know if a factory reset of a 4 year old iPad mini is likely to sort out glitches? Book creator will not load and a couple of games kick you off after a few minutes. My dd is asking for a new one for Christmas but I'm trying to find alternatives

If you hold down the round home button and the on/off button keeping them pressed in for 15 seconds then the Apple logo will appear on the screen. When that goes off release the buttons then turn the iPad back on again.
This mini reboot often works and saves restoring to factory settings and losing everything. Good luck.
