I feel like I shouldn’t have to say this but after the pandemic where could I find a decent dinosaur exhibition?

Ds is dinosaur mad and I would love to show him real fossils. Hhis favourite is velociraptor but I don’t think there is a skeleton of one of those in the U.K. is there?

Isle of Wight is very fossily. I have heard that the guided fossil walks you can do there are really good and there is a dino exhibition in sandown (never been though).

I don't know about a velociraptor fossil but ime kids find out of context fossilised dinos a bit meh (except the diplodocus at the NHM because it's massive)

The Rail Maritime and Transport Union headquarters is in Somers Town, north London.

Book a holiday to Dorset at some point, there's a great visitors centre on the Jurassic coast and you can go out with a guide looking for fossils aimed at that age. If you are in London and want a lockdown dinosaur fix, go to Crystal Palace park where there's Victorian stone models of them among the trees

The Natural History Museum in London had a fabulous dinosaur section, including a life sized robot T Rex going back a few years. I'd check and see what they have now?

JustCallMeGriffin · 18/11/2020 17:26

More of a dinosaur theme park, but Paradise Wildlife Park in Hertfordshire has brilliant model dinosaurs that move/make noise if he'd enjoy that.

Leicester New Walk museum or there is a dinosaur world in I think somewhere near Ipswich?!

The Cole museum at Reading Uni has some interesting stuff, it's a small museum and very good if local for an afternoon.

User27aw · 18/11/2020 18:09

The Natural History museum in Oxford has lots of dinosaur skeletons.

Hoppinggreen · 18/11/2020 18:10

Manchester, theres a life sized TRex

ImAllOut · 18/11/2020 18:14

Dan yr Ogof caves is great, we've taken our 4 year old a couple of times already www.showcaves.co.uk/dinosaurs.html and the actual caves are really good too. Cardiff museum has a nice exhibit too but not enough to warrant a special trip unless you're combining it with other things in the area.

Dippy the diplodocus was on tour. Don’t know where she is now though, possibly still in Glasgow!

Oxford natural history museum. Our boys both loved it, plus there's enough non Dino stuff (eg a bear that you can stroke) to keep the older one amused once he was too cool for dinos when we went back the 2nd time with ds2

Alittlebitofthis · 18/11/2020 18:48

I know it's no help your question but we went to a dinosaur exhibition when it was in Edinburgh. My son enjoyed it. I can't remember what was all there though apart from the t-Rex.

The Etches Collection at Kimmeridge in Dorset is worth a visit and you can fossil hunt all along the coast, further west is good, from Golden Cap westwards.
