IKEA click and collect

Sorry, just a rant. I've ordered some stuff from IKEA, DH has to work near there today so he's going to collect it. Been waiting patiently for the email to tell me it's ready, but nothing. Looked at their FAQ's and apparently it will be ready up to 72 hours from the date I've chosen! It would be good if they told you that when you booked a slot!!!

If I'd have know I'd have booked a slot for Monday in the hopes it was ready by today. So now I'm going to have to drive 120 mile round trip and pay the crossing fee again to collect it another day! 😩😩😩

It does tell you. When you choose the store you want to collect from it says in the box the date and time of your collection.

Be thankful you didn't go to get it at the weekend. Apparently they told half of SE England or somewhere that they could go and get their stuff any time on Sunday.

The roads were gridlocked in the vicinity, people were stuck for hours and they had to get the police to sort the traffic jams.

@FundamentallyFucked When I ordered it yesterday, it gave today's date as an option for collection between 10:00 - 19:00 so that's what I picked. It's not anywhere on my confirmation email that it will be ready anywhere up to 72 hours after the date I choose.

And I can't see anywhere to cancel it now either. I could re-order it next time Dh is nearby for work.

I ordered something on Sunday to collect on Monday. I arrived at IKEA Croydon at 6pm, being told I could collect any time on Monday. Told to wait in car but after 30 mins of waiting I decided to go and investigate kerfuffle at doors. Basically they were calling names out on a megaphone to the 100+ people crowded round the door. At 9.00 they closed and sent everyone away, including me, without our orders. Some people have been there 5+ hours.

I went back yesterday evening and got order in 45 minutes. The whole thing was a shambles, don't do it.

We are supposed to be in lockdown. Why on earth is ikea open.

It's not. They're allowed to do click and collect. Which they're doing, badly by the sounds of it.

In a world where people are still moving house. My parents are moving in 2 weeks from a large house to a small bungalow and this has meant we have had to move about /go places more than we would have if they were not moving.

Even then, it still shouldn't be open. Nowhere that is not essential should be open. Its fucking ridiculous. People think buying furniture is more important than people's lives. As someone who has not been out my house since mid Feb due to being clinically extremely vulnerable, I am sick of people not understanding how serious this virus is.

I guess what is essential to one person might not seem that to another. People due babies still have to buy cots and car seats though some might not view shops selling them as essential. My parents need to buy an oven and fridge fin the next week as they are expected to move even over lockdown.

I understand it must be really frustrating for you after so long isolating. I guess it’s more the way people use the shops that bothers me.

Oh god @Rockbird I'm now trying to cancel it. I'm not going Saturday.

@Mixedupworld - It was completely closed on the first lockdown I believe, but open for click and collect now. I've been working from home since March, working from my dining room table, I've now sorted out the spare room and ordered a desk so I can work in there instead. Not ideal trying to work from the dining room table while the kids run round my feet. But it'll have to do for a bit longer! Like pp have said some people still need essential items from non essential shops. I wasn't ordering new door mats and candles, but I understand where you are coming from.

No, it's not my choice. If I were to catch covid I'm pretty much guaranteed to not survive.

I'm buying packing boxes to move house, fairly essential. I've been extremely careful all the way through both lockdowns although I work in a school so there's a limit to what I can do to keep safe. I'm vulnerable but I have to do what I have to do, I can't stay at home.

Blimey, I think we got off lightly. Ordered stuff to collect from IKEA Warrington in Sunday. Had an email on Saturday morning to say it was ready to collect. Arrived 7pm Saturday evening. Let them know we were there and had a message 5 mins later to say it was ready to collect. Absolutely perfect.

Its still your choice. Shit choice but choice all the same. You haven't been told you have to stay at home since February. People are allowed to go to shops in spite of the medical conditions of others. My DH has left the house 3 times since March, but aside from the lockdown/shielding it has been his choice. That's doesn't give him any right to persecute others

I'm contemplating an Ikea online order to click & collect (either Greenwich or Croydon) has anyone had recent experiences collecting from the stores?

Noticed it's only free for over £100, I'm ordering about £60 worth of furniture, the delivery charge is £40

So it's going to have to be a trip to the store to C&C!

Hedging my bets and decided to spend enough for free delivery! We've moved into a new place so need new stuff

Just think it's going to be madness at IKEA on a weekend!
