What would you do?

I got an unexpected bonus from work recently and in a fit of indulgence bought a Gucci bag. Ridiculously expensive and wasteful but, on balance, I don’t regret it Grin

dottiedaisee · 17/11/2020 23:01

Book myself in to a hotel by the sea and have a few days of peace and quiet. Am craving time to myself with a good book and chilled wine to drink whenever I feel like it ,with some tasty food and dips...bliss !

Lurchermom · 17/11/2020 23:01

Leg and underarm hair laser treatment I think. I love a holiday but I put money away for those anyway. Beauty treatments never make my list so a spare pot of cash would be a lovely treat.

User258544 · 17/11/2020 23:47

Style revamp.

Dowser · 17/11/2020 23:49

An Opal necklace

BritInAus · 18/11/2020 01:22

Yes, also laser hair removal so I never need to really shave my legs again! Would save so much time and faff (I live in a reasonably warm climate so often 'legs out').

I'd also splurge on an amazing dinner with a couple of my best friends who are equally foodie and would really enjoy it.

dolphinpose · 18/11/2020 08:11

Residential fat camp
@FancySomeChips - that's what I was going to spend my grand on. But then lockdown happened. I am SO glad I didn't get to go to the residential camp, because having a PT instead taught me how to build a lot of fitness into my regular everyday life, and now the money for a PT has gone, I still do the cheap bootcamp sessions. If you get the chance, spend it on fitness that can become a real routine. It's easy to live on a cup of miso soup and half a lettuce while doing mini triathlons if that's all you have to do all day. But back home with DC squealing and DH bringing home multipacks of chocolate biscuits - it's easier to stay fit if you have a routine built into your real-life schedule.

I'd get my teeth fixed. Straightened, overcrowded wisdom teeth pulled, whitened (after years of mh related neglect).

They're a constant reminder of a really shitty time in my life. They used to be basically perfect, straight and white with no fillings (I still have no fillings but awful gums). Now they are awful. They need multiple hygienist appointments to get them properly clean and get all the tartar off them so I can get them back into a reasonable state. But being on minimum wage in the middle of a pandemic it's not going to happen any time soon.

If there was any left over I'd go on holiday to Greece and go on lots of history tours

MorrisZapp · 18/11/2020 08:28

I've just come into one thousand pounds too OP (raises glass to dear old gran!)

My attempts at cash squandering have been somewhat hampered by covid shopping ie endlessly taking things back, but so far I'm delighted with my new Sorel winter boots, they're definitely for keeping.

I'd love to have my grans old garnet ring reset too but I don't really know where to start with that one.

dementedma · 18/11/2020 08:33

Head to Orkney for some peace and quiet on the islands...and some (more) sheila fleet jewellery while I was there.

PandemicImpact · 18/11/2020 09:22

No idea. Maybe lots of sets of lovey new bedding.

lastqueenofscotland · 18/11/2020 09:24

I’d buy a new saddle for me horse

wildroseandpink · 18/11/2020 09:32

@happytobemrsg

I’d buy a ring from VCA 🥰
me too...although I really want the pendant but that's double!
NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs · 18/11/2020 09:36

I'd sort my teeth out too.
I had veneers put on my front teeth as a teenager on the NHS, legitimate reason.
24 years later they're cracked, moved away from my gum line, that hard to brush bit is now stained brown, it looks awful but dentist won't replace them on NHS until they fall off and I can't afford to replace them otherwise.

Cailleach · 18/11/2020 10:03

Dentures.

RedTawny · 18/11/2020 10:42

Either

  1. permanent hair removal on my jaw/chin/lip which I think could eat up a lot of it, maybe a night away with dh in the lakes to

  2. a two night spa break just for me incl treatments and food and some new underwear

FraughtwithGin · 18/11/2020 11:32

I would use it for the next year's hair and beauty treatments.

hopeishere · 18/11/2020 11:39

I've had my legs lasered and it was worth it!

Because you get it done weeks apart it's not a lump sum so it was more affordable than I expected.

MrsMiaWallis · 18/11/2020 11:41

Teeth, a bit of straightening in the bottom. And botox.

CountFosco · 18/11/2020 11:57

Something for the house, probably put it towards a beautiful vintage rosewood sideboard to replace the IKEA monstrosity we have at the moment.

TurquoiseDragon · 18/11/2020 12:18

Purely for myself, a couple of tattoos, and some new clothes from whatever is left.

wendywoopywoo222 · 18/11/2020 12:18

A hotel where I could see the sea and mountains all on my own. I'd stay there until my £1000 ran out.

golddustwomen · 18/11/2020 12:23

I would go into town and buy the black Vivienne Westwood cross body bag that I've had my eye on. Then a nice lunch, strictly no children in sight, and probably the rest on a cover up tattoo.

CorianderLord · 18/11/2020 12:24

I just spent a similar amount and am getting tooth whitening and composite veneers
