Anyone live somewhere where they have successfully cracked down on dog fouling?

I moved to a village recently and I've never known anywhere like it for dog fouling. There's shit absolutely everywhere, with favourite areas being the snicket leading to the junior school - the kids must be bringing it indoors all the time. It's always caked on the pram wheels, and after getting it smeared down the hall this morning (I didn't notice it in my haste to bring the screaming baby in), I'm close to losing it.

There are free poo bags all over the village so bag and bin availability isn't the issue. I can't store my pram outside.

What can I do? Can anything be done? Apart from just looking where I'm going better, as DH helpfully suggested while I angrily scrubbed and disinfected the hall this morningSmile

Oh look now, don't talk to me about dog shit. Having traipsed a load through the house yesterday on the pram wheels I'm fit to murder someone. No solution but you have my sympathy

My youngest stood in It on the way to school yesterday. She had to get a spare pair of shoes from school. Pisses me off!

I can't get the smell out of my nose after bringing it inside today, I'm so paranoid I've missed a spot or it's on me somewhere Angry

I've noticed since covid people are becoming less bothered about clearing up after their dogs. I wonder why? Discarded masks everywhere too.

I'm a dog-owner and absolutely hate this too and find it absolutely disgusting. I am careful about where my dog pees, never mind poos and I am fanatical about clearing up. Could you start a campaign in your village? Leaflet houses, put a notice up and hold a Zoom meeting for anyone interested. Make it inclusive so you bring dog-owners on board and get them on side. Liaise with your parish council.

Have a look at the Dogstrust's information on dog fouling and their campaign literature www.dogstrust.org.uk/news-events/issues-campaigns/dog-fouling/.

Shower caps on pram wheels at door?
You have my sympathy though. It's bad where I am in a city.

That's really helpful @Farewelltoqualms , thank you, I'll do that!

This may not be useful as I live in the US and this was a very specific set of circumstances. In our old apartment complex, they successfully curtailed a major dog poo issue by using a dog poo DNA service.

It worked because you had to get approval from the apartment complex to have a pet. They were able to get all registered dog owners to bring their dog to the apartment office to get a DNA swab of the pet, and all new dog applications had to abide to giving their dog's DNA. They'd test any poo they found in the complex and fine the offending owner, repeat violators could be evicted.

Apparently, some UK councils have applied similar to catch repeat offenders: www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-essex-50303244

@GeidiPrimes I don’t think it’s that people have got lax since COVID, more that lax people have got lockdown puppies and don’t want to put in the hard yards..... I hope I’m wrong otherwise we’ll have a lot of dogs for rehoming
