School trousers for slender, leggy girl

DD is 8, just below 9th centile for weight (always has been). She’s also not very tall, but has disproportionately long legs so finding trousers that fit around the waist but have long enough legs is tricky. Until this year she’s been happy to wear a pinafore and tights for school, but has now decided she will only wear trousers. She has one pair from M&S which fit okay with the adjustable waist cinched right in, but they’ve stopped making that style. I order a different style in the same size, but even with the waist adjusted they’re still too big, and look silly (and feel uncomfortable according to DD) because of all the bunched up fabric.

From what I remember John Lewis and Sainsbury’s sizing is also very generous. Any other ideas where sells uniform cut for skinny minnies? Thanks!

With the M&S additional length trousers in extra long, you can go down an age bracket or two so the waist fits.
I haven't found anywhere else that does extra long to give the sizing flexibility

Next were always good for my tall skinny girls when they were at school.

Ahhh, those extra long M&S ones look good, but they’re completely out of stock online above age 3-4. Thanks anyway!

I’ve just remembered Next, @BigSandyBalls2015. I haven’t shopped there for years! But will have a look online. I wish H&M sold school uniform. That’s where I buy non-school stuff for her and DS who is similarly string-beany.

I’m pretty sure even Asda do extra length

I get the jersey ones in the right length from Asda, or if they’re out of stock then anywhere else, cut a notch in the back of the waistband, pull through the elastic and shorten it as necessary, pinning it with a nappy pin I tuck back into the waistband so it doesn’t dig in. Just check before buying that the elastic runs free and isn’t sewn in (cheaper is better in this case, as it’s more likely to be sewn in on the more expensive trousers).

This trick also works well on a Primark leggings.

I feel your pain - dd is currently at school in an age 7 polo shirt and age 12 trousers.

Thanks Hm2020 and Beaufort. I’ll have a look on the Asda website. DD is still wearing the age 4 school polo shirt I got her for Reception. It’s been good value for money at least Grin It seems as if her legs are the only part of her that ever grows!
