How can I stick my Xmas Garland on front door

I have a Xmas Garland I would like to put around the front door but have no idea what to use to stick it up and make it stay. Does anyone have any ideas? It's only quite light. Thanks

Command hook placed upside-down on the other side of the door.

Invisible thread to hold the wreath in place.

Ahh good idea...thank you

These

Then either hang it on directly, or put loops of wire through it and hang those on the command hooks

We have one of those flat metal hooks that go over the whole door. I wasn't sure if the (composite) door would still shut but it's fine and my wreath looks lovely! I'm itching to get my Christmas decorations up now but am holding out until the 28th/29th...

We have a clear plastic suction hook which attaches to the front door and can hold the wreath.

Amazon have lots of over the top of the door hooks you can buy to attach them.

The person making mine suggested the Command one but I can't find it online from a UK supplier. The only ones I could find were coming from overseas with a delivery of mid December.

Thank you so much for all of the suggestions, I'll have a look Smile

I make my wreaths with a long hanging ribbon that passes over the top of the doors to a small, large headed tack on the inside.

I was really into Mrs Hinch for a while and she had a hugely long festive garland that she hung up around her front door. I honestly can’t remember whether she used to fix it - rendering this comment, I see now, pointless.

Everyone’s talking about hanging wreaths, but the OP said it’s a garland. They’re so different. A garland is that long festive bastard, like a length of tinsel or ivy, that’ll need fixing above the door and down the sides to stop it blowing round in the wind and strangling the postman.

TinyBarista · 17/11/2020 08:42

Definitely command hooks and invisible thread

mogtheexcellent · 17/11/2020 08:42

I think it depends on what surface type ypu want to hang the garland from. We hang lights from our concrete porch but we had to drill holes in the concrete and insert hooks to do this. There are suction cup thingys usually for sale in the outdoor lights section which might work if you stick to PVC door surround.

Otherwise its pins/nails and string or cable ties.

Exactly! I'm confused as to why everyone's recommending wreath hooks 🤔

OP, command hooks are a great option which I've used for garlands and strings of lights in various places.

I stick little command hooks with the hook edge pointing away from the door if that makes sense. For garlands or thick-wired lights, use a twist of thinner wire. For copper-wired lights or similar, I normally just shape the wire in a loop around each hook.

If it's heavier, then obviously look for bigger hooks and cable ties or stronger wire.
