Name Changes?

I feel a bit stupid asking this but...
Why do people name change on here?

I changed my username because at first it was my name, then I changed it a few times to ones I liked more. However, I see people starting off posts with "I name changed for this." What does that actually mean? Am I missing something? 😂

Well I suppose people in RL may know my username or at least recognise me from things I've said and should I ever want to post something embarrassing I would name change for that?
