Tried and tested day beds / sofa beds

I like the ikea hemnes one but the reviews are mixed about slats breaking and I want it to last well. Or a sofa bed? It is for a small guest bedroom so would prefer the space when not in use hence not putting a double bed in.

We have the ikea hemnes one and it's really nice. Not had any issues with it. The drawers are huge and deep so lots of storage.

One thing I would say is that it really is a big piece of furniture! We measured up beforehand and it fits fine in the room but I think because it has the sides on it really does feel a lot bigger!

Thank you for the review. That is useful to know! I am looking at different options at the moment, I was put off by some of the reviews but I do like the aspect of it having storage. Will have to measure up.

Ikea hemnes all the way ours was 11 years old sold it for £150. Gil stayed with us a lot no issues at all.

Ikea hemnes is great. Check eBay and Facebook, loads of them going very cheap.

ShaunaTheSheep · 15/11/2020 19:44

I prefer the Ikea Friheten. The Hemnes one is so heavy and bulky, I got rid of ours.

Friends have the Friheten corner sofa, and keep a topper in the storage underneath. It is very comfortable to sleep on and easy to pull out.

picklemewalnuts · 15/11/2020 19:45

Hemnes is big, and works well. The slats can be managed with a bit of basic care.

Two problems we had- the wheels on the pull out part damaged the heavy duty vinyl flooring we had, which was upsetting as it was new.

Also, the thickness of mattress that make it comfortable as a double makes it too high as a sofa. Choose your mattress according to how it will be most used, as a single and sofa, or as a double.

I like futons as they are easy to go up/down the ones we've had from futon company have lasted well.

Notlostjustexploring · 15/11/2020 19:47

We've newly got the IKEA ASARUM, and I've not stopped raving about it. No idea how long it will last, but I've only ever experienced good things about IKEA furniture longevity. Full size double when out, and the sofa doesn't look overly imposing and it looks nice into the bargain.

@picklemewalnuts thank you for the detailed response. I will take those points on board.

@BefuddledPerson do you have a link of a tested one? I will also look on the website, thank you.

@ShaunaTheSheep thanks. I will also need a corner sofa bed but for the spare room I will not need a corner. Otherwise that looks like a good suggestion.
