Young teenage daughter has asked for a psychology and sociology book for Christmas. can anybody recommend?

Daughter has asked for a book about psychology and one about sociology.

She would just like the books as both subjects interest her. We often talk about both topics, but I only know of study guide type books, I am not sure this is what shes looking for really.
Ideally I am looking for a couples of books which cover the basics of each subject but reads more like a book than an actual revision type book.

does anybody know of any and could recommend? I have had a little look but there are so many and obviously have no idea what they are like so I thought I would head to Mumsnet and see if anybody here could help out.

Asking in a bookshop might be more useful - the staff will know the books, and be able to make recommendations.

Giddens for sociology - he's not overly academic and covers a vast range of topics in an easily readable way. Psychology - depends if she is interested in a specific area. Sanford good for developmental psy, but Gleitman for overall intro maybe? Also Gleitman less academically written but there could be easier to read staryer books than thrse two.

Dorling Kindersley do a book on Psychology and another on Sociology. They cover lots of the main ideas and are very accesible for teens. My own DD has the Psychology one and is now studying for A level. Highly recommended.

Psychology for Dummies and Sociology for Dummies. Very accessible, informative and fun.
