What are my parents-in-law's neighbours actually doing?

So, to be clear right from the start, there will be no answer to this one, ever. (If it is a weird sex thing, there is no way my parents-in law would tell us - it would be too awkward!) This is purely for speculation, but what are they up to?

Every Sunday evening my parents-in-law's neighbour creeps out of his bungalow and down the path beside the fence to hang a home made wooden shutter over the frosted glass window of their bathroom then heads back inside. This has happened every Sunday evening over around the last six months. If my parents-in-law are in the garden, he waits until they have gone inside but when they look out again later, the shutter is in place. (If they are still there at the critical time he actually ducks down below the level of the fence so they can't see)

What can they be doing that needs a wooden shutter on the window? The most innocent explanation that we can think of is creating a dark room but in that case, why try to do it so secretly and with such a regular schedule?

Please share your ideas because we are stumped.

If it’s over your pil’s , I’d wager their frosted glass doesn’t offer as much privacy as they thought.

Our teens have absolutely suggested the cooking meth angle but why the regular schedule?

I absolutely agree re the the. blind or curtain. That would be so much more discrete whatever they are doing.

By the how old is the neighbor? Is he married/in relationship ? Does anyone visit him during this session?

I think he’s filming porno. Shutters because he’s using extra strong lighting.

Yes, a blind would do the job nicely indeed.
I think they find you all staring at them from you PIL's garden every Sunday rather creepy and they are concerned you are trying to get a view of them bathing

I can imagine the other thread! My neighbours have their son/ daughter and family in the garden each Sunday and they keep staring at my garden like looking for something....

I imagine it'll be because frosted glass you can still see through with the light on. But why is he putting it on the outside?! Weird!

I think the neighbour's wife or other family member has a regular appointment/schedule & is unavailable at that time to notice what the weird is doing. The weird neighbour hangs the shutter hangs the shutter on the outside so as not to have to explain blinds etc. It's a porn shoot/cooking meth/conducting illicit affair/practicing their circus skills.

Or they are a spy, & are distracting your PILs from something that's happening across the street.

The neighbours are a couple, married I believe. As far as I now there are no visitors when whatever is happening is happening.

round here youd have had half the street making a special trip past your house to "catch you on the way out" and ask "what the fucks the shutter for love?"

Probably just a very paranoid and not very bright individual who only bathes/showers once a week.

Ah, so you think the wife is busy at that time regularly so there is a window of opportunity and a shutter outside would not be noticed while a blind inside would - that is a really good point.

I suspect they think people can see in when it’s dark. Shadows at least. So they put a blind over the window so they can have a bath or whatever and not worry someone will see their outline

I guess they just don’t want a blind inside, so are going for the cheap but cumbersome option.

Shame for him the shutter is on the outside, it may accidentally fall off one Sunday, in an unseasonal puff of wind?

Your PILs still won’t see much, through the frosting, but the startled sound effects may give some more clues?

The shutter is hung over the outside of the neighbours window. It is not just hung there is an extra prop. underneath to support it and another wedged against the fence.

100% A Sex Thing. No idea what, but I’ve led a pretty sheltered life.
