Best tasting menus (in hotel?)

Big birthday next year and my planned trip to New York may not be happening for obvious reasons. I’ve always wanted to go to an amazing restaurant for an incredible tasting menu. Even better if it’s in a lovely hotel or there is somewhere nice to stay walking distance away. I’ve heard about L’Enclume but has anyone been anywhere else and rated it highly?

Sat bains, Nottingham

Fleabagster · 14/11/2020 16:40

@goatsgalore have you been?

The Waterside Inn, Bray. Restaurant with rooms rather than a hotel as such.

@magnarocks I’ve looked at the Fat Duck in Bray but hasn’t thought about Waterside Inn. It’s just sooooo much money I don’t want to make the wrong choice! Cheaper than going to New York though....

@Fleabagster we did it for OH's big birthday a few years ago and it was amazing.

Such a lovely experience and we even met Michel Roux in the bar - he was incredibly charismatic and just came across as a lovely chap.

Thank you @magnarocks it’s great to hear a personal recommendation.

Restaurant Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles. I've been twice, absolutely wonderful both times.
Celeste at the Lanesborough in London
Number One at the Balmoral in Edinburgh

I've been to both. The fat duck is very out there, but delicious. Had the tasting menu with tasting wines....spot on meal, some bizarre stuff. It was some year ago I went but still remember what I ate.... highly memorable.

Waterside inn is far far more "traditional" food, and less "outstanding" - I can't remember what I ate. But we also stayed there and had a lovely room, meal and the breakfast on the terrace. We also hired their boat for an hour which was nice and had G&T overlooking the river before dinner.

Manoir aux quat saisons, also lovely but again more traditional. also lovely hotel.

Le Manoir any day.

Waterside dark and stuffy in comparison. Food obviously good, but prefer Le Manoir for that too.

Went for private dining at Le Gavroche for a relative’s birthday last year - absolutely incredible food, and bloody expensive, but I’m sure many wonderful places to stay nearby.

If you want something more relaxed, Limewood in the New Forest - Angela Hartnett restaurant, the tasting menu was awesome, hotel is beautiful as is the spa. I would move in if I were a millionaire 😬

L'enclume is my local and it's brilliant! I've stayed over a few times (being served breakfast by a student of mine was unexpected) and Cartmel is lovely. Stock up on sticky toffee pudding whilst you're there.
Forestside is pretty good too - that's become a January haunt.
Loved Le Manoir aux quat' saisons - did a course in the day, dinner and stayed over. I'm hoping for a repeat of that.
Le Gavroche was great if you fancy London but no rooms.
The fat duck was a bit too "Try hard" for me.

Le Manoir every time - the combination of the bedrooms, gardens and food is unbeatable. Then go into Oxford for a day of wandering the streets/walk by the riverside. A 10/10 weekend.

I quite fancy restaurant sat bains now!

Fleabagster · 14/11/2020 18:03

Ooh thank you so much for all the suggestions! Off to investigate them all. Getting excited!!
