Will I have to take my bra off for an ecg

I’m due to have an ecg on Monday. I don’t feel comfortable for various reasons being fully exposed. I’ve brought a bralette to wear it’s not got wires in it. Will this be okay please?

I had one recently and didn't have to take my bra off.

Sarahlou63 · 14/11/2020 11:48

Yes, you will.

MsIrrational · 14/11/2020 11:49

I had one in the past and I did have to take it off. I did have a wired bra on though so I'm not sure if that was why...

Blackandwhitehorse · 14/11/2020 11:49

I had to take mine off.

I've had 3 ecgs, each time I had to take my bra off. You have little pads put on varying points of your upper body. I've also had ultrasound looking at blood supply to heart. It's not the best, fortunately had a very discrete nurse.

wombatsandaplant · 14/11/2020 11:50

I had an underwired bra on when I had one and didn’t have to take it off

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 14/11/2020 11:50

I didn't.

lolabears · 14/11/2020 11:51

Depends on who does it in my experience. I'v had them done with no bra and with bra. If you're no comfortable taking of your bra let them know and they should be able to accommodate.

BlackeyedSusan · 14/11/2020 11:51

Maybe not. The electrodes are put on in a pattern around your boob.

You have to take it off for a scan of heart.

kimlo · 14/11/2020 11:52

I've had one in the past and had to, had one recently and didn't have to.

lolabears · 14/11/2020 11:52

*if you have a scan you do get a gown though.

LooneyLovefood · 14/11/2020 11:53

I've never had to take mine off for ECGs.

Pipandmum · 14/11/2020 11:54

My daughter just had one. She put on a hospital gown over her bra, the technician just asked her to unclasp the back. She was extremely respectful and fully understood how a teenager might be very self conscious.
However, if they do ask you to, just remember the person has seen everything and is not going to judge you. I think this every time I have to have a mammogram- they not only see put have to touch you too. Always respectful.

Backinthebox · 14/11/2020 11:55

I have one every year for a work medical. The doctor seems more embarrassed about it than I do, but yes, I always have to take my bra off.

MrsFionaCharming · 14/11/2020 11:59

I ask my patients to unclip it at the back, so I can fit the stickers under the wire.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 14/11/2020 12:03

I have them yearly and only wear non wired pullover type bras and always have to remove it. They have to put the sticky pad right up under my breast so no getting around it really.

Elsiebear90 · 14/11/2020 12:07

I perform ECGs at work, official guidelines are bra must come off, but it depends on who does them and what kind of bra you’re wearing tbh.

FinallyFluid · 14/11/2020 12:09

Bra off, but in my experience you are facing away from them anyway.

ew1990 · 14/11/2020 12:13

I do ecgs at work and only ask if they will take it off if its underwired.

Just for reassurance op I can not tell you what any of these womens breasts look like. I'm concentrating on placing the pads so don't even register the fact they've got no bra on

NeutralJanet · 14/11/2020 12:15

I would also advise not to wear anything too fitted on your bottom half, I had one recently where they put one of the sensors on my ankle and because I was wearing skinny jeans that were tight around the calves/ankles I had to remove them.

Jbck · 14/11/2020 12:15

Have never had to take underwired bra off and had several at different hospitals.

TimeToParty · 14/11/2020 14:24

Usually bra off.

But if you’re uncomfortable you could explain it’s a bralette so wireless, and ask if it’s possible to keep it on. If it helps you might also be able to request to see a female.
