Raining all weekend - how will you dry your washing?

I’ve got loads of washing, school uniform, sheets etc so can’t leave it and it’s raining all weekend. So it will be draped on an airer, stuck on radiators and I will have to put some in the tumble drier although I try not to use it too much. I’ve got a very small house and it’s a pain!

Lakeland heated airer it's working away on a load right now.

Darkestseasonofall · 14/11/2020 09:05

Dehumidifier under the airer in the utility, in fact the entire utility has been given over to drying clothes today.
Should all be dry by lunchtime and order will be restored.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/11/2020 09:05

Lakeland airer. It does dry quickly-not as fast as a tumble dryer, but it does work well.

I have the 3 tier tower. Small footprint and looks neater than an airer.

I do have a dryer for towels and sheets. But mainly Lakeland airer in the rainy weather.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 14/11/2020 09:06

Dehumidifier in the bathroom, 3 airers, 6-8h later it's all done

Werk · 14/11/2020 09:07

I use a dehumidifier- I shut the airer in the downstairs loo with it on, the radiator up high and extractor on - load is dried in a couple of hours.

Mycircusmymonkey · 14/11/2020 09:07

Ceiling airers and dehumidifier although to be honest uniform and underwear all goes in the tumble dryer just to get it done and away

kittykat35 · 14/11/2020 09:07

I'll do all my laundry today, although dh has done a two washes this week. I will use the dryer.

glitterfarts · 14/11/2020 09:08

Wash it all then go to the laundromat and dry it all in half an hour.
No dryer and no space for a washing rack and need 5 work outfits and school uniform for both DC dry by Sunday to iron.

Thesearmsofmine · 14/11/2020 09:09

We don’t have a tumble drier so at this time of year we take some of our washing to the local laundrette to be dried. We take a big Ikea bag full of wet washing and the man tumbles it, folds it all up and even pairs the socks for less than a fiver.

Vanannabananna · 14/11/2020 09:09

Tumble dryer for all items that can go
In. Lakeland heated airer for rest

starlingsintheslipstream · 14/11/2020 09:09

I don't have a tumble drier so on the airier with the dehumidifier going - a recent purchase and it's changed my life!

InTheLongGrass · 14/11/2020 09:10

Outside if the rain holds off for an hour or 2, then onto airers.
Otherwise airers and draped round the house.
Honestly, since you have a drier, I'd use it.

Peppafrig · 14/11/2020 09:11

What dehumidifier are you all using please?

airedailleurs · 14/11/2020 09:11

launderette!

ElspethFlashman · 14/11/2020 09:12

Ceiling pulley airer in the utility room. We don't have massively tall ceilings and our utility room is narrow so I was a bit worried before taking the plunge.

Best household item we ever bought. No clothes drying in the rest of the house and we can leave the utility door to the garden open during the day but close the kitchen door to the utility room. So the clothes get fresh air but the rest of the house isnt cold.

And on bad days there is a little radiator in there and they dry that way.

Anyway they're usually dry by the end of the day. I just put them straight into the drawers then. None of this airing cupboard multi-stage airing system nonsense.

Valkadin · 14/11/2020 09:13

DH built a retractable steel washing contraption airer thing on the top of really tall larder cupboards. This is pulled out and a radiator is below and it dries washing really quickly. It also means it can be pushed out of sight totally when not in use.

yellowmaoampinball · 14/11/2020 09:14

Tumble drier! I wouldn't be without it. Anything that won't tumble goes on a clothes horse. I've also been known to put stuff on hangers and hang them on the curtain rods with the window open a crack.

MissisBoote · 14/11/2020 09:15

Double whammy of the Lakeland heated airer and a dehumidifier. Dries it in a matter of hours.

I got a reconditioned airer from the Lakeland eBay shop. Worth a look if you're on a budget.

@Peppafrig Meaco or Ebac are your best options for dehumidifiers.

Infinitethings · 14/11/2020 09:18

I would like a heated airer but I have no room to store it (open plan downstairs with a teeny kitchen.) Yes it’s definitely tumble drier weather.

Do the sheets need washing yet? I dry mine inside but not on the same day as clothes or towels. I do pillowcases weekly with the towels, then sheets less often.

Summerstorms · 14/11/2020 09:22

Do heated airers use less energy than tumble driers?

dottiedodah · 14/11/2020 09:26

All in the Tumble Drier here! Couldnt live without it!

VenusClapTrap · 14/11/2020 09:29

I had a large drying cupboard with wooden slats built next to the boiler. It takes up to three loads of washing and dries things overnight.

Sheets are a pain though, so I wait for good drying weather to do all the bedding so I can hang it outside.

Plussizejumpsuit · 14/11/2020 09:32

2 airers from ikea and a de humidifier in the spare room

Peppafrig · 14/11/2020 09:33

Thank you so much @MissisBoote
