Raining all weekend - how will you dry your washing?

I’ve got loads of washing, school uniform, sheets etc so can’t leave it and it’s raining all weekend. So it will be draped on an airer, stuck on radiators and I will have to put some in the tumble drier although I try not to use it too much. I’ve got a very small house and it’s a pain!

Tumble drier.

I've got the heated airer from Lakeland but I think it's shit.

Our tumble drier is small so sheets / towels
Go to the launderette.

motherofawhirlwind · 14/11/2020 09:33

Clothes get hung on hangers on doorways or a clothes rail. Dry in the day usually.

Sheets and towels get a blast in the tumble dryer, and then draped over radiators or the bannister.

Condenser tumble dryer here for around 70% of items. Airers for the rest, I have one tall narrow one in the bath, and I leave window slightly open. Larger airer in hallway for sheets etc. Dries quite quickly, although I do sometimes have to hoover condensation off the windows with the Karcher.

HelloDulling · 14/11/2020 09:36

Tumble drier. But, if I were you I’d leave the sheets until the rain stops and peg them out in a few days.

barberousbarbara · 14/11/2020 09:36

I don't have room for a tumble drier so we put washing on the airer with a dehumidifier running next to it.

@Peppafrig we've had ours for a while but the current equivalent to ours is this De'Longhi. It's not cheap but has been worth it.

goingtotown · 14/11/2020 09:37

Tumble dryer.
I like to wash, tumble dry & put laundry away, job finished.

M0rT · 14/11/2020 09:39

I don't have a dryer, so dry sheets/duvets over doors then finish them in the hot press.
Have an Aldi heated clothes horse for clothes, I can put a small normal clothes horse in between a radiator and the heated one so everything dries quickly on it.
I really want a ceiling pulley rack in the hot press, just can't find one to buy.
I also have many sets of bed clothes so I don't have to wash immediately when I change the bedding. Can wait for better weather or a day when less clothes need washing.

Infinitethings · 14/11/2020 09:40

Good idea re the sheets. I will wait till Monday.

Tumble dryer. I have the Lakeland heated airer but I only use it for things that can't go in the dryer, because it's so slow to dry a full load, but if I lay the non-tumble-dry items out flat on it, they dry quite quickly. I live in a very rainy part of the country, so I don't get to hang out my washing often!

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 14/11/2020 09:45

I put rails up in the cupboard that holds my hot water tank. I hang clothes in there with an oil filled radiator plugged in underneath. Shut the door and dry them overnight.
I used to have a washer/dryer but it was terrible. Took ages to dry anything and lots of clothes can't be tumble dried anyway.

ElspethFlashman · 14/11/2020 09:55

We got our ceiling airer from Pulley Maid. Came pretty quickly and was affordable.

In hindsight I'd have gotten the 6 bar rather than the 4 bar. For 4/5 people the 6 bar is better.

Am thinking of replacing it with a 6 bar and putting the 4 bar out in the garage for sheets and duvet covers.

Squaffle · 14/11/2020 09:56

I’d love to line dry but we are in a 2 bed flat with no garden. We have a ceiling pulley airer which all the big stuff goes on, then a concertina one for underwear etc. It takes about 24 hours to dry per load. Giving washing an extra spin cycle helps.

ilovebagpuss · 14/11/2020 09:59

Tumble dryer. Can’t live without it and Although people feel they are expensive to run I would rather pay for that than other things if push came to shove.
We used to have an airer thing in the top of the stairs which worked quite well.

ThisAintNoPartyThisAintNoDisco · 14/11/2020 10:00

I bought a dehumidifier earlier in the year and it’s been brilliant

MuseumOfYou · 14/11/2020 10:03

Vented tumble dryer plus under stairs airing cupboard with hanging space for non tumble drying options.

userxx · 14/11/2020 10:10

@ThisAintNoPartyThisAintNoDisco What difference does it make and what does it actually do, I'm thinking suck the moisture out of the air so it dries quicker?

helpmum2003 · 14/11/2020 10:14

We have a Meaco dehumidifier. It dries washing quickly and prevents condensation in the house also. Economical to run. Strongly recommend.

helpmum2003 · 14/11/2020 10:16

@userxx yes they suck moisture out of the air and there's a tank to empty. It was a game changer for us.

AntiHop · 14/11/2020 10:17

I've never dried my clothes outside. We don't have a tumble dryer. We use a clothes airer and a ceiling rack on a pulley. We moved to a house with a garden a couple of years ago but our garden is small so didn't want washing taking up loads of space in the garden.

afaloren · 14/11/2020 10:19

Things that live in the wardrobe dry on hangers in doorways and then can be put immediately away once dry; stuff for drawers goes on a clothes horse or if I’m feeling lazy/the weather is very damp I’ll put it through the tumble.

megletthesecond · 14/11/2020 10:22

I have an Ikea wall fixed airer at the top of the stairs. I'm putting out a few bits at a time. The heating is on so it'll gradually dry.
I can't be bothered to use the tumble dryer, the bikes are in the way.

starlingsintheslipstream · 14/11/2020 10:22

@Peppafrig

What dehumidifier are you all using please?
This is the one we have. Not cheap but the other alternative was buying a tumble drier.

Venicelover · 14/11/2020 10:23

Lakeland airer, and a tumble drier. I hate washing on radiators!

waitrosetrollydolly · 14/11/2020 10:32

Tie sheets around your shoulders and run around the house while waving the school uniform about from both arms... do this for about 6hours and 37 mins.... or buy a heat pump tumble dryer if the local laundrette is closed.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 14/11/2020 10:42

Over the radiators or hung over a door...I don't have the room for either a tumble dryer or airers sadly.
