Raining all weekend - how will you dry your washing?

I’ve got loads of washing, school uniform, sheets etc so can’t leave it and it’s raining all weekend. So it will be draped on an airer, stuck on radiators and I will have to put some in the tumble drier although I try not to use it too much. I’ve got a very small house and it’s a pain!

Tumble drier, or on the airer beside the radiator in the bathroom that is a heat sink for the range. Dries overnight.

I've only had a tumble dryer since Summer and I love it. Whole loads of laundry washed and dried in a few hours. It used to take a day or 2 on the airer or radiators which obviously made the house colder and damper so we had the dehumidifier running all the time. I know the tumble dryer is not cheap to run but the efficiency is worth it.

We live in a small rental, no outside space and a small washer/dryer that has been known to take 8 hours to dry two towels. Like you OP we are open plan and the noise of it is intrusive. We have basically lost a room we really need just to airers. One is Lakeland heated which helps, but I think I am going to try a dehumidifier too.

Those of you who use airers without dehumidifiers - do you open a window or use some kind of ventilation?

@Ginfordinner when we lived in a flat with excellent double glazing, we ran a dehumidifier every day during winter, and at other times. Now we're in a leaky Victorian house, with crappy double glazing, we haven't needed the dehumidifier, despite drying all our clothes inside.

After years of using a Lakeland heated airer, I caved and bought a tumble dryer in February. They're not very heavy so it sits on the counter above my washing machine in the utility room.

I have no garden or washing line outside so with 3 kids it's been a bit of a life changer!

Dehumidifiers are a game changer if you can't afford or don't have space for a tumble dryer.

Clothes that take too long to dry can smell musty, especially jeans. Our dehumidifier is about 18 years old. We bought it to dry out a damp cellar, but it is brilliant at drying clothes that I don't want to or can't tumble dry.
