Clothing for tween / early teen boys - what do they like

Hi,
My son is in year 6 and never really been interested in clothes before but is starting to become more fashion conscious and feels like his clothes are different to his friends.
I’ve tended to buy some nicer outfits from Boden and Joules but Joules stop at this age and Boden seems more geared to younger boys too.
Where do you go to for tween outfits. He’s mentioned Addidas / Nike and I’ve had a look at Abercrombie but where else should I look. Thanks

My DS is year 6 and I buy him:

Gap - mainly t shirts, in the sale.

H&M, Sainsbury's - for basics like jogging bottoms.

DS is into gaming so he loves wearing T-shirt's PlayStations and fortnite.

Thistles24 · 13/11/2020 21:16

Depends what he’s into OP. DS1 is all about polyester sports logo clothes, I buy from Adidas online usually, they have great offers on.
DS2 isn’t into sport, he loves gaming and is all about comfort so cotton jogging trousers and PlayStation logo tops and hoodies.
Some of their friends are more into fashion and seem to wear super skinny jeans (black), and designer polo shirts. All of them seem to wear only all black trainers (usually Nike).

Tigger69 · 13/11/2020 22:18

Thanks, not really sporty and I think he would like more comfy cotton t shirts and hoodies. He’s only mentioning sports brands from friends wearing them

My DS is a little older but started getting into clothes (and brands) around that age. He liked Hype t shirts and hoodies and still has some now. Adidas and Nike are his sports brands of choice, now moving into Champion, Mckenzie and Sonneti. Basically he could haemorrhage a lot of my money in JD Sports if I let him! I get stuff in the sales as the stuff he likes is a bit over priced really.

LtJudyHopps · 13/11/2020 22:30

You can look on JD Sports but if you wait Nike normally do Black Friday discount codes, as do Adidas.

dolphinpose · 13/11/2020 22:33

When DC were this age I found H&M was best for basics as they do a better tween range than most. Try Uniqlo as well. Abercrombie and Hollister XS and S men's sizes might do if he is quite tall.

Passthecake30 · 13/11/2020 22:37

My year 7 son isn’t into sports but wears tshirts and hoodies from sports direct, with black skinny leggings or jeans from Next (only place that caters for his skinniness)

calamityjam · 13/11/2020 22:41

Did had just turned 13, year 8. He wears a lot of Nike and Adidas. I buy T-shirt's and hoodies and joggers from jd usually. I found h and m to be great for skinny jeans and TK Max for a few higher end hoodies like DKNY and Armani. A lot of kids in his school like Montclair and CP company. This designer lark only started last year and he got the more expensive stuff for his birthday.

BenoneBeauty · 13/11/2020 23:48

Rascal clothes for my boys of that age.

Sandseasurf · 14/11/2020 00:00

DS is 12 but tall and creeping in to men’s sizes.
Primark jeans (great for skinny long legs)
TK Maxx for branded tops and coats
Sports Direct for Adidas/Nike tshirts and trainers. Kids Adidas tshirts go up to age 13/14 I think and are much cheaper than XS mens.

Nat6999 · 14/11/2020 00:05

Ds had polo shirts from Next or TU, jogging bottoms or shorts from both shops or Sports direct. Not interested in brands even now at 16, gets most of his clothes from TU if he is paying from his DLA, if I'm paying he chooses stuff from Next.

converseandjeans · 14/11/2020 00:32

H&M for joggers, shorts, plain TShirts
Sports Direct for academy pants and Adidas or Nike hoodies
Vans for TShirts & trainers
Converse for hoodies

I would ditch the Joules & Boden pronto! DS used to wear it but by Year 1 refused & wanted sports kit. Please don't make him wear 'pants' - hopefully you've already got him some short style ones?!

user68634 · 14/11/2020 00:39

It's a bit of a drastic style change to go from Boden to sports brands. Unless he's desperate for such brands I'd stick to H&M/Lindex. They have a really huge range of affordable teen clothes. Don't assume all teens progress to overpriced sports brands. Mine haven't and have a great eclectic sense of style.

CanICelebrate · 14/11/2020 00:42

Mine are 13 and 14 and wear bits from Nike, Hype, Holister, Superdry and all the basics from H and M.

Sheknowsaboutme · 14/11/2020 06:49

My yr 8 boy likes nike trousers from sports direct, hype T-shirts, has a nice denim jacket from river island (sale though), happy to wear nice stuff from Primark.

junglepie · 14/11/2020 07:31

my 12 yr old boy has jeans/joggers from Next usually
but he now likes branded tops (Nike, converse etc) Sports direct are good for cheaper t shirts and hoodies.
also agree tk maxx can be good too.

PeaceAndHarmoneeee · 14/11/2020 07:38

Y8 here and all the boys seem to wear Nike, Adidas and North Face.

Usually tracksuit bottoms and a jumper or hoody and trainers.

Tigger69 · 14/11/2020 14:41

Thanks all. Shall have a mooch through online

Nike website has good sales. A 25% offer has just ended but there will be another one. Become a member and it’s free postage.

Lots that people have already mentioned (H&M, Primark, Gap.) Also have a look at Next.

Beetlewing · 14/11/2020 17:27

Mine likes oversized T-shirts from movie merch websites like lastexittonowhere.com, with a big hoodie and H&M jeans
