Why are some people so rude online?

Some people on here can be so rude with their comments, and I just feel like it really isn't necessary. It's not just on here but also on the group chat for DD's nursery. Most of these people wouldn't dare say the things they do irl. I've even come across something on reddit, claiming people are lying because it doesn't sound believable to them, and generally just being mean to posters here on mn 😪

WTF did you start this pointless thread for? Grin

Seriously...people are rude because they can be, nobody knows who they are and if they have had a bad day they can take it out on a thread on MN because the people reading aren't real are they, it's just words on a screen which hides the fact that it's a real person with feelings at the other end.

Tenyearsgone · 13/11/2020 20:15

Errr you can't mention Reddit on here.

Changethetoner · 13/11/2020 20:20

But group chat on your dd's nursery is IRL, isn't it? You know who they are, aren't you? So if you think those people are as rude as people on other anonymous forums, you maybe incredibly sensitive.

Well to be fair the Reddit subthread is a much needed outlet for speculating about certain posts that crop up allll the time on Mumsnet, and discussing them in a way you can’t on here. Believe me, it’s rightly called out some proper trolly bollocks many times over.

You can't call it trolly bollocks. That's rude and mean.Grin

We’ve had this thread before, by a lot.

It’s also full of some right trolley bollockers.

Pop on over to netmums then. Nobody is forcing you to be on here.

We have variations on this thread every month. Boggles the mind. Stop reading if you don't like it.

I like the reddit sub, they're better at spotting trolls than MNHQ. Although had to take a little break from it when they were all being utterly awful about the mum who lost her daughter. :(

@PiperPiper20 it's still there if you sort by top of all time!

oldbagface · 13/11/2020 21:07

I agree wholeheartedly OP. And as if by magic PiperPiper appeared

AlexCabot · 13/11/2020 21:11

I'm confused, I thought the op started this thread to talk about MN. Why all the Reddit comments, is it not a completely different place?

AlexCabot · 13/11/2020 21:12

Sorry, misread the op. Ignore me!

PiperPiper20 · 13/11/2020 21:15

Did I get deleted for mentioning our dear old MN favourite?

user1294729492759 · 13/11/2020 21:20

People are the same offline.

Yippeeforme · 13/11/2020 21:38

They probably want to think they're badass and imagine themselves doing a mic drop with every snooty post they write 😂

VettiyaIruken · 13/11/2020 21:44

Some people are rude. Face to face, behind your back, online.
I think posting anonymously online makes people feel free to say the things they would want to say if the interaction was in real life but don't. But online you see the real person. Some lovely, some awful and most just in the middle.

Internet randoms have no power except what you give them. 🤷‍♀️

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 13/11/2020 21:46

The thing is people get fed up of being 'nice' time after time when people say stupid things or start attention seeking threads.
