Nintendo Switch questions

I'm considering getting on for DS (8) for Christmas and I have some questions - I know they are popular on here.

*is 8 a good age? He has an iPad with a few games on (minecraft, mario cart, snake) and we have a family Wii but no other 'gaming' experience.
*will he want it on the tv all the time or is the little screen good enough mostly?
*are the games good for short intervals? He doesn't often have more than an hour of tablet time in one go and more like half an hour in school nights.
*does the basic package have enough 'bits' or will I need to buy accessories?
*what price shall I look out for on Black Friday? :)
*any specific game recommendations?

Thanks!

We have one gets used once a month for about an hr. It is used on the tv. They prefer to play on laptops boys and the girls prefer kindle fires.
We only have mario and a dance one that all 4 children can play together.... maybe if I bought more games they would like it but £40 a game I don’t fancy risky it (although might buy the animal game for Xmas)

I bought one for myself when DS was 4 and he very quickly took it over as his! He is now 8. He doesn't usually play on school days but will play for an hr or 2 on weekends and holidays. He absolutely loves it. We have Mario party, kart and galaxy. We also have captain toad's adventure. I also have a couple of Zelda games but he's not so interested in them yet. Definitely worth the money in my house.

Sounds like a good age to me, ours had DSs at that age before the switch came out, but got a Switch last Christmas (teens now). It has been used lots this year.

Mind like to play on the TV where they can, but are happy with the small screen if the TV is in use or they want to play in their rooms.

Plenty of games where you can spend half an hour playing. Mario, Pokemon and Splatoon are favourites here for short bursts of play.

Zelda and Animal Crossing DD prefers when she's got an hour or so.

We've not bought anything extra except the games. I gather for some of the multi player ones you need a second set of controllers, others you can use one joy con per person. We've not ventured down that road yet.

Splatoon did need us to set up a Nintendo account with an annual subscription. I don't think it was a huge amount but it was not what I wanted to find out on Christmas morning!.

Mine love theirs
We use it on both tv and alone
No extra gadgets but did get a free extra 2 controllers
Try and buy one with 2 games in Mario kart is a good starter
It’s actually great fun as a family and I’ve watched my 10 and 15 year olds playing just dance was hilarious & good fun for them.
I really like it it’s expensive though so see what it is price wise now decide what you’d like and then when bf comes round places might be offering extras etc to bump the package up somewhat. I’ve got 9, 10 & 14 year old boys and we’ve had ours a few years now so does get used
