Best Ikea pre-teen/teen bed?

DS is 10 and just about ready for a new bed; he currently has a mid-sleeper with a slide on it, which has been fun but probably not in keeping with his image going forward!

Does your DS/DD of a similar age have a bed from Ikea? If so, which one is it? (And do you like it?)

Ideally it will be something that could potentially take him through the next 5 to 10 years.

DS just has a normal single from IKEA.

Moved ds at 11 from high sleeper to double bed. He is now 13 and growing every day it seems and it feels right that he has that sized bed. We got one that you can lift up at the bottom and store things under, it is great.

I've got my eye on this one. It really depends on the size and shape of his room.

Would you be getting another bed in a few years? Mine went from cot to bed to leaving home .

CatherineSanderson · 13/11/2020 08:59

Hi @yikesanotherbooboo, with any luck this will be the only one we need, unless DS turns out to be 6 foot 6 like his uncle! We have a real mix of heights in our family though, so it could go either way.

I'd love to get him a double bed but the room is just too small. These suggestions are great though and he likes the look of the SLAKT, so there might be a new bed coming his way for Christmas!

No advice but my DD is 10 and also has a midsleeper with slide (which she's had since about 2.5). My plan was to redo her room once she has started secondary school - it seems a natural time to do it, and she hasn't had so much as a new duvet cover since she was a toddler. But she is adamant that unless we can find a double bed with a slide, it isn't going to happen!

Small double bed with under bed storage!

Like this one: www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/nordli-bed-frame-with-storage-white-00349849/

It will last for more than the years you've specified, can then be used as a spare double bed, has storage and is sleek enough to look in fashion, plus, did I mention it has lots of storage?

Pandamanium · 13/11/2020 11:33

Apologies, I started typing that and got distracted.

We have this in a small room though so it may work (it's a small european double rather than the UK double!)

thereinmadnesslies · 13/11/2020 11:45

We got the IKEA high sleeper with the desk underneath which was good for a few years but then by the time he was 13 he was tall to sit up in bed and so we had to change it again. He now has a small double (not Ikea) with storage underneath.
